This is what happens when you hire a theatre major to do a man's job. Good riddance.
Bye JK
Thank you KKR for seeing the error you made with JK. Welcome Ken Hicks!! I hope it is not too late to turn this ship around, you have to get Michelle out to move forward.
ASO is and was top heavy
From a store prospective, ASO is and was top heavy. Corporate office expansion was a sign of too much wage spent at the top. Cooperate staff was ballooning while stores were forced to cut back on floor coverage, training, merchandising, etc. When new... — read more
IT Support for 240 Stores
How large of an IT staff should it take to support 240 stores?
More IT cuts in April?
I don't want to spread rumors - so treat this with a grain of salt. I've heard this today from a single person, and just wanted to let everyone know that another bout of rumors will start to spread quickly. Given the recent experiences, folks are... — read more
Academy Sports Layoffs February 2018
I'd really like to know who makes the decision and based on which criteria on who is laid off. We have lost some of our best people in the latest round of layoffs! Hard workers with tons of experience are gone and some of the laziest people I know... — read more
full time requirement changes
Does anyone here have any insight on the upcoming change to full time requirements? I've heard that some stores are testing a change where if you have ANY hours you cannot work you will lose your benefits. I am curious if having blocked hours mean we... — read more
Yet another "reorg". ASO will not survive
Layoff for IT was today along with a complete reorganization of the Merch Planning and allocation division. So much talent walked out of the building today, to the point of what will be the demise of the company. Those walked today should feel like... — read more
57 to be laid off at Academy Sports + Outdoors IT Dept
Saw on the local news that 57 more jobs are being cut at the Katy Headquarters before February 2. Must be in the IT department since none of them were cut on the first lay off wave in July.
No proper (or any) raises
Been at Academy for over 3 years. When I first started I was at the bottom of the ladder making minimum wage and knew absolutely nothing about retail. Now here I am with all this experience under my belt and I barely had any raises to compensate... — read more
Train the newbes!
Relying mostly on employees who are young adults who either are on their first job or who have very little marketable skills will be the downfall of Academy Sports. Those few of us who are not in this category are left to carry the burden of this... — read more
Academy Sports & Outdoors is looking at more layoffs due to decreasing performance
This was not a surprise, at least not to me. ASO is going to have more of these due to its decreasing performance. KKR has been carrying this company for a few years and that is going to stop in the next 18 to 24 months. There is too much deadwood in... — read more
Bankruptcy soon?
Its happening http://footwearnews.com/2017/business/retail/retail-stores-bankruptcy-wall-street-analysts-402563/ Analysts are saying Academy's going bankrupt. Will it be announced at the end of this quarter? Surely things cannot be that bad
store administrative assistant
the cuts have hit the stores now no more store administrative assistant
It's the management that's the problem, not the workers
I have worked in corporate retail for a long time and while layoffs are part of the business lifecycle, the way JK is leading the company it is hard not to believe this will be commonplace until they shutter the place or find a buyer. The way these... — read more
Academy Sports did this all wrong
Although I understand the point of a restructure (collapse areas and get rid of excess headcount), there is a right way to do it and a wrong. Academy did it wayyyyyyy wrong. It was leaked out early amongst the ASO community that these layoffs were... — read more
Around 100 laid off at Academy Sports + Outdoors HQ
It seems that reorganization has become synonym with layoffs... Close to 100 employees were laid off from the company's Katy corporate headquarters. It is so far unknown if stores will be affected as well... — read more
Unfortunately Academy is very dependent on the oil and gas markets and their competitors are not.
The company has been declining since early this year. They get to hide it all being privately held, but it also means trying to go public is delayed even further. They have also been slowly replacing most of their senior management over the last... — read more
We used to do much better, now we are stuggling
I like it working here though, people are really good - I hope we'll be growing big time very soon
Cuts / Exec Level
KKR did acquire Academy Sports and KKR always looks for cash flow. cutting resources and executive staff always helps and that's what happened. execs were overcompensated, and i did not shed too many tears here.
