Lower cost is a driver in layoff decisions

This nonsense about low performers, sure it’s a factor. It’s about money and if they like you or you’re related. Performance is not going to matter if you stay, when you have double the work and are next out the door. Lower cost is a driver in... — read more

How stack rankings go down

I am an I10, but have been an M10 in the past. I have helped with analyzing performance, and have had to lay one person off. Ideally there is a metric like quota attainment to compare people to their peers. Another example metric I have used is... — read more

I've been applying to small startups

I'm tired of Dell and the overall "big company" culture and structure. One of the main reasons why I never applied to a startup before was job security. As that is no longer something any of the big companies are offering either, I have no reason not... — read more

TSB

How is TSB business doing overall? Any chances for reductions? I'm worried. Telco business in general is down globally with this economy.

Ready to leave this place?

Of course I'm anxious, but the prevailing feeling is that I will finally get out of this place which makes me happy.

Inspire points

Hi. Can anyone confirm if Inspire points can be used after termination or can you negotiate for more inspire points in the severance package? I’m 50 points short of a new air fryer that I have had my eye on for months. If I am laid off, the new air... — read more

Layoffs are no longer a rare occurrence

Stop thinking that next week will change something for you. As soon as the cuts are done, you'll be seeing more rumors about the next round. I'm betting you it's going to happen within a day. That's how it works now. Cuts are a fact of life you have... — read more

Jan 25 last real hot day

nothing. Feb 6 is the next real hot layoff day. Really super serious this time right? Care to guess what will happen? Nothing. Remember in scooby doo they unmask the ghost at the end of every show? Hint: it's the ghost of laid-off past.

is next week real ?

I dont think there will be any layoffs next week, can anyone confirm if next week is real ? And state your source

I'm glad it's finally happening

As long as they are fully done with layoffs next week I'll be happy, whether I'm affected or not. This wait and the endless speculation are ki-ling me. I need to move on and get to the point where I'm able to fully focus on my work (or search for a... — read more

Official Script is Out

5% of total Dell FTEs US has a higher % of that mix 2 months, plus one week per year COBRA 2 months Comms start Monday, 2/6 last day for those impacted is 2/10. Yes, front line managers know who on their teams.

Announcement next week

I have heard from a senior manager that an announcement is coming next week, that ties in with early Feb predictions etc So most likely an email with announcement on Monday, invites sent Tuesday and people told Wednesday

Recent article

Dell is also reportedly in talks of announcing staff reductions as early as this week, but we are not yet hearing a consistent number. One source tells us that managers in various departments have been told to put together names of who should get a... — read more

Skills becoming irrelevant

This is one of the biggest problems - in case of big layoffs, many of us would have a very hard time getting new jobs. I know that I tried my best to keep my skills relevant here, but it's not so easy when you work at Dell, right?

Dell wont do layoffs

Im wagering that there will be no mass layoffs, maybe just a small culling of very non performing workers. Those people afraid of town halls and all hands should not be scared

Better laid off than PIPed

Honestly, I'd rather be laid off, at least that doesn't come with any stigma in this day and age and I get a severance as a nice safety net. When they start handing out PIPs indiscriminately it doesn't matter what you do and how hard you work, you're... — read more

This week?

So this is the last week of Jan, first week of Feb Will we see 10% cuts as produced by some

Time to unionize tech support ISG

We need a union to stop this cr-p and help protect us from bad leaders and sh---y pay raises. Can't belive we are working for a billion dollar company and we don't even get treated like a human instead of a number on a spread sheet.

Back from the future again

Many say 2/6. Sorry. Nothing happens. I went out as far at 3/1. Sorry. Nothing even post earnings. ~mmcfly

Any rumors for US services sales?

We lost a lot of people last half and reduced the number of managers. Many inside reps are doing the work of 2 by also functioning as the outside executive. We were always lean so we were surprised when we lost a lot of people.

*Allegedly* 2/6 is the day

Hearing from multiple long term reps that 2/6 is the day. 11% reduction - roughly 17-18k. Mostly from "middle management."

Get your resumes ready

People constantly complain about things that will never change in this company. They spend their time thinking about whether they will end up on the layoff list or not, instead of taking control and focusing all their energy on looking for a better... — read more

Hiring at Bangalore location

While we are facing layoffs, Dell is busy hiring in Bangalore (and I'm assuming other overseas locations, this was only the first one I ran into when I searched for it). This is our future, folks. Constant layoffs here and constant hiring abroad. We... — read more

I hate this uncertainty

All in all, it is no longer possible to work here and not be constantly worried about whether you will be laid off or not. Of course, this makes the already toxic atmosphere in the company even more toxic. I am quite prepared in case they tell me... — read more
