Topics regarding layoffs at IBM

It's lawyer time.

My wife just got RA'd after over 17 years of stellar service and immediately following a change in severance policy that dramatically reduced severance.

Embarrassed to be an IBM employee

Of course they will do it right after the GDP payouts (a/k/a performance bonus) are announced to employees. My measly $1,000 for a 2+ performer is chump change to Ginni and the execs. They probably carry that kind of money in their wallet in the... — read more

Digital Sales RA

Canned today. It's OK, will move on, hated it here anyway (4 years). Digital Sales, NE. Last day 5/31/2016, will get 30 days severance after that. The rest of it is pretty much standard, there was a lot of fluff but the meeting was brief and they... — read more

GTS TSS RA

Any updates here? I left in November 2015, the timing might have worked out for me. Stay strong.

Layoffs March 2016

Good luck to the remaining IBM team with this latest round of layoffs. Happened to me in 2014.

Just got hit -- software tech sales

I just got hit. Same as others are saying: last day is May 31, don't know if there is any pay beyond then. There are some internal jobs. There will be career counseling. I'll find out more tomorrow.

A Resource Action is taking place today in GTS. The last day will be May 31 2016. I have 21 years of tenure, I was transferred to IBM from a client a few years back. My group knew what was going on and we’ve been tracking this site and the FB group –... — read more

70k added to payroll in 2015, 70k laid off in 2016. Add: Offshore; Cut: Onshore - when the dust settles, Indian Business Machines will be an awesome company figthing a tranche warfare with Tata and Infosys. Forget R&D, that's just for the investors... — read more

Not so shiny

Unfortunately, IBM still uses the despised "normal distribution" performance rating system, at the close of the performance year each employee is stacked – you can be rated as a top contributor (5% of all employees), above average contributor (15%)... — read more

Updated Performance Mgmt Process

IBM Human Resources did it right this time. From the basic premise of a need to change, to using agile methods for design and feedback of the process, to rolling it all out to workers. They really are walking the talk when it comes to how to provide... — read more

RA's easier and more frequent

The goal with ditching PBC was supposedly to make performance evaluations simpler, more-streamlined, and less time and labor intensive, but now with Checkpoint: it's 4'x the amount of work and time in assembling and inputting information, as well as... — read more

Is it possible to volunteer for layoffs

I would like to leave the company, however, it should be nice if I can get severance. My plan is to leave in the fall, however if I was to get the severance I wouldn't mind leaving right now. Maybe I can save somebody from getting laid off, while... — read more

What does IBM layoff package look like?

What are the general terms of IBM layoff package? Do they pay 2 weeks of salary for every year worked? Will bonus/commission be included in that calculation?

Doom and gloom? Some people like it at IBM!

As someone who worked for IBM for more than 30 years before taking a job with another company, I can say that these were my reasons for sticking out so long.... For at least the first 9 years, IBM was flush, and even though it wasn't a stated policy... — read more

Ouch

Yes, IBM will be in a big hurt for buying all those shares at the highs which will never be seen again. After the coming crash they wont have $$ left to pay the bills or Ginni's ridiculous salary and bonus for poor performance. LOL..

Every employee's number comes up

You are evaluated and ranked on a quarter to quarter basis. Every IBM employee has an expiration date on his/her head. It really is just a matter of time before every employee's number comes up. It is simply the IBM way.

IBM / A Burnout Question

I started in IBM's cloud group as a band 6 - we only had about 100 clusters to administer with 8 people on support, and 8 people on ops. OK, now this seems like a fair amount, and workload was manageable. Since then, IBM has consistently dropped the... — read more
