Is NewCo Doomed from the start?

When one looks at this spinoff of NewCo in a little depth, one has to wonder how the heck NewCo will survive and thrive. Most spinoffs, think Delphi Auto Parts from GM, had an independent business that could continue to supply the mother company... — read more

GTS and GBS seem to do the same thing.

I moved from GTS to GBS recently, and I don't see any real difference between the 2 divisions. Both basically manage client's IT. GBS claims to be more about cloud, but supporting a client's AWS, AZURE, and other cloud services is the same thing as... — read more

Will the results be the same?

I just read an interesting comparison of IBM today and the situation Microsoft was in 10 years ago when they opted for a public cloud strategy. I hope that we will see a similar success in the future. Here is an article with the comparison:... — read more

GTS has many that work as contractors. Anyone have any idea if cuts to contractors is likely as NewCo comes online? Any feel for how many?

Problem # 1: IBM hasn't been a Tech company in a long, long time. The Financial Engineering business model, however, has been unsuccessful.

It appears that IBM mostly gave up on developing technology in-house and turned to the financial engineering business model in the early 2000's, maybe even earlier. IBM became the Department Store of the tech industry. As quoted below, IBM just was... — read more

Possible scenarios for employees in Rochester

It has not been decided yet whether Rochester will remain with IBM. As someone who used to work there, I would love to see this place intact and under IBM’s umbrella. Is there any chance for them to keep the current teams here? Uncertainty creates... — read more

whats Ibms "hybrid cloud" strategy?

From what I gather, IBM's "hybrid cloud" strategy is to convert (deploy) all software they're selling into RH openshift containers and sell them to clients by marketing it as applications that can transfer data to/from mainframes to public... — read more

Why are people being put on a PIP right now?

A friend of mine was put on a PIP a couple of weeks ago. Even if we put aside the fact that he is one of the best and most valuable employees here, it still remains that they're putting people on a PIP in the middle of a pandemic. Are no allowances... — read more

IBM / Consulting / PMP certification

How important is a PMP certification if you are moving to a manager role and above in Consulting? Is it really a big deal for employers? I feel you pick up a lot with experience and it doesn't add any more value than a tag.
