Mess at Microsoft Design Studio

I was lucky to have worked at some big companies (Microsoft, Meta, Apple) and some startups as well. I worked for a couple F500 companies as well. However, Microsoft was a waste of time and the worst experience I had. Microsoft has just about... — read more

https://www.inventiva.co.in/trends/microsoft-announces-job-cuts-google/ Microsoft announced that it would lay off 18,000 employees over the next year. This includes 12,500 in the company’s sales, marketing, and engineering divisions. Microsoft CEO... — read more

Earnings report is tomorrow

It's safe to assume that the results are going to determine how bad the rest of the cuts will be, so I'll be following to see what happens.

Question for those laid off

What was the process? I'm sorry if this seems insensitive right now, I'm just trying to determine what to expect in the future since we know more is coming. I'm mostly interested to know if your direct supervisor knew ahead of the time you were... — read more

Just wondering

Can't Gates invest some of the money he's donating anyhow (we are talking billions of dollars) back into the company so that we don't have to leave people without their livelihoods? No, I'm not being serious, but it annoys me to see him get great... — read more

I would always recommend Microsoft for junior engineers

Junior engineers can learn a lot here and I would recommend every one of them to apply here. However, being a senior engineer here is not an enviable position at all. I am amazed at how much more some former colleagues who went to FAANG companies... — read more

Layoffs while hiring

While letting some people go, Microsoft will most likely continue to hire new employees, correct me if that's not true. Is there any logic in that at all? Isn't it a better solution for the company to keep as many existing employees as possible... — read more

At least two more rounds coming

There's a rumor going around that there'll be at least two more rounds of layoffs before this is over. Can anybody confirm whether this is true and if it is which orgs are expected to be targeted? I know engineers are most likely safe but what about... — read more

Microsoft Federal Layoffs

Would someone be able to comment on Microsoft Federal? Do you think Microsoft Federal is going to get shut down - or what's the possibility it'll have massive layoffs a-la MCS? I hear that it's "too big to fail" but at the same time I know the group... — read more

MCS Layoffs yesterday

Here's what we know so far about the July 2022 layoffs: so far limited to ISD (Industry Solutions), previously known as MCS (Microsoft Consulting). This is because company wants to "outsource" consulting to vendors / partners instead of doing it... — read more

Any IC affected?

I haven't heard of a single loss from engineering friends or anyone in their teams, is it just consulting or similar?

How many were affected today?

Is there any way to find out how many employees were affected today? Also, Monday is usually not a day for layoffs so I'm going to assume that it's not over yet. The fiscal year just ended and we all know that's when there's a major "house-cleaning"... — read more

How worried is everybody about layoffs?

I admit I'm among those who's started stressing over this. I've been here for nearly twenty years and while we've had layoffs before, this time it seems different. I might be wrong about this, but something big seems to be brewing and I'm not sure... — read more

Microsoft Hiring Freeze

Have you guys frozen your hiring? I've started the process and then the recruiter went quiet - no response or very slow response. I've lost any hope that I'll be interviewed.

Layoffs coming?

Given that Microsoft have hired aggressively on the east coast(Atlanta) especially, any chance of possible layoffs during the slowdown ahead? Or would it be team based depending on how much the product you're working on generates for the company. — read more

Layoffs in Russia

Now that we're getting rid of employees in Russia, does that mean that the hiring freeze might be lifted? I don't care about hiring all that much, but I do care about possible layoffs. If there is a hiring freeze, there's a chance layoffs are not far... — read more

MSFT layoffs 2023?

With worsening economy, do you think Microsoft will mass layoff like 2009 since they will have a great excuse?

Ageism is a major issue

If you're in your 30s, or nearing 40, watch out. By age 45, you could be out. Microsoft is known to sp-t out employees that are over 45. They practice a hire now with 40ish to fire within five years just so they can continue to have over 40 stats... — read more

Remote job at Microsoft?

Those who are remote or based of a site not in Redmond, do you worry about being first to be let go in a recession or downturn?

How worried should I be?

I am going to join MSFT as a SDE 2. Are layoffs and RIF something to actively worry about?

Not what you would expect

I was a little disappointed because I thought Microsoft was a much better workplace than it really is. Great learning culture, that's for sure, but it is also a very toxic place. Anyone else disappointed?
