Payoff vs Sanity

The people that post "just leave" on this site either have an in demand skill set or they are a naive millennial (I know, that's an oxymoron)

The rest of us that are in the targeted age range with not sought after skills are faced with a difficult question to answer?

How long can I hold out for the payoff (severance or sub) before I lose what remains of my sanity?

I wish I had that answer.

Here's my advice for those that are in the same boat. Just set mini goals like "try to make it to the holiday weekend." Or "try to old on until the next round"

Sadly my current goal is "just try to get through the day"

I remember back 5, 6 months back when some poster was continually posting about people attacking and cannibalizing one another, every man for himself and many deriding that notion.
him.

I certainly didn’t see it but s/he turns out to have been prescient. It is happening here and at work.

You can choose to wallow in misery or do something proactive to better your situation.
Your choice.

So Mr. Stick Around is in Technology and taking some online classes to pad his resume.

Still not in the same boat as the thousands with Finance and Accounting degrees.

Millennials are starting to stroll back from their daily extended lunch break. The down votes are startling to come in.

"How about some of your demographics to go along with your post? Most specifically your age? Married? Children? How many weeks of vacation to you get?"

What does assume mean again?

Mid-fifties, married with children, and four weeks.

Just because you're on the Titanic doesn't mean you can't get to a lifeboat.

Vacation is negotiable, like everything else. No, I might not get five weeks at the next job, but I've never settled for less than three.

YouMayBeRight — Seriously? You’re b****ing because you don’t have any in-demand skills (which is YOUR fault) and because any new position wouldn’t give you 5 weeks of paid vacation? I don’t blame any company that wants to get rid of people like you. The sense of entitlement and anti-millennial hatred emanating from your post is disgusting. Maybe you should have made an effort to develop some in-demand skills instead of sitting on your behind and whining and expecting the world to cater to you. No wonder you’re in this boat.

Well this married father in the target age range gets 5 weeks of vacation. Does this better job you speak of give new employees that much paid time off?

Of course you have no idea because you are a millennial with probably two weeks vacation. You will never have more than that because you job hop every couple of years anyway.

The extra weeks are not s big deal to you because you don't have children. When/if your life goes that route, it is not uncommon for their activities to eat up a lot of your vacation time.

Anyway, thanks for your two cents. Not anything I can relate to since you really aren't in the same boat as I am

I'm busy learning new skills on company time and using company resources. Looking at the job market for what I'm learning, I could end up with a 20% pay raise and drop my commute from 45 mins to 10 mins.
Yeah, the culture here s—s, and you have no idea what's coming next, but at the same time, why worry about what you can't change or hasn't happened yet?
As long as they pay me, I'll stick around :)
