For those who received BE reviews and got let go, how many BE ratings did you get prior to being let go? I just received my first one after more than 10 years and was shocked. I’m wondering if the mid year reviews count less than the final year end reviews but at this point I guess it’s a moot point since it’s already on my record.

To the poster who said BEs are all deserved, please explain how so many employees who received EEs for years have all suddenly plummeted from being competent and productive to being drains in the system. Did everyone secretly get together and make a group decision to underperform? Cut out the conspiracy theories and wake up to the fact that certain age groups are being targeted, pure and simple. If the cutoff age is now apparently around 50, how long before 45 - or maybe even 40 - is no longer considered to be "hungry and competitive"? And I find criticism of competence to be particularly galling when it comes from an individual who doesn’t know the difference between "your" and "you’re" or "older" and "elder", and who thinks "alot" is valid English.
I got an EE at mid-year and a BE at year-end. Turned 50 and got laid off 2 weeks into 2019.
That's what i was thinking my first BE after 19 years of EE & AE awards and never any disciplinary action on my record. My midyear was horrific as they spent no time on my objectives; rather it was a litany of petty incidental things that didn't amount to anything. No constructive feedback; it was as though i instantly was of zero value. Also, our new dept head was making these ratings based on 3-4 months with no input from her predecessor.
I did write that I didnt agree with my yearend BE. For the mid-year I was going to do the same, but i am just tired if the game. I just want out, butbrheir gonna pay me for it. I broke my butt too many years to walk away without it.
What would happen if you don’t acknowledge your mid year review and comment that you don’t agree with BE rating? Has anyone done that or reached out to HR?
Got my only one in 25 years the day they let me go. It's the first step out the door. Sorry
For more than 20 years I got none before and they give me BE 2 week before lay off, which truly say was fabricated.
In my department we never get a rating for mid year? Is that unusual apparently?
If you got BE on your mid years, you will be likely to get BE in your finals. They will tell you that they don’t see you getting BE in your final review but thats b—s— especially when they referenced some b—s— reasons for why they gave you BE. I was taken away at first but so happy that I thought I was going to be laid off on Monday. Still hopeful that it will be soon. Praying.
BE....management in bny are thise that are useless (nobody else would emply them) or those that are good with no alternatives. Bny is a joke of a company now
Nice try Charlie. Is that what your new head of HR fresh from Visa spoke slowly to you using small words to defend the unwarranted and subjective, non-performance based BE process?
The person with all the negative responses sounds like a real back-stabber. “Push to shine”. Hahahaha.
I am sorry that you got the BE. It was about difference, not necessarily deficiency. Hopefully next time, one of your teammates will get it instead of you.
In my dreams, by next time, the QUOTA will be eliminated and performance reviews will be real again.
Be advised that mgt. is arbitrarily changing people's reviews from meets expectations to below expectations....with zero evidence to substantiate the changes. Now we're entering issues of a legal nature.
Kind of reminds me of that scene in the movie "Gladiator" where the Juba tells Maximus: "You have a great name. He must k–l your name before he k–ls you".
Shame :-(
Today in Brooklyn they let go several employees with not even a year completed. They are letting anyone go who can’t perform.
What about all the VP, MD (Finra) positions that require licences and don't have them, they're still standing.. It's a political game and if you don't play they throw you away regardless of AGE. People we can't change this mob mentality.
Yes they count less then year end reviews. They are a heads up that you need to improve many folks on here talk about discrimination towards the elder age. But the fact is, the younger crowd is coming into the business fresh and hungry. This business is competitive, push to shine or get left behind. The equation is simple, if you're position includes alot of downtime, get out while you can. If you're attitude is bad, or you are rated BE, listen to your manager and step your game up. Any BE rating is fully reviewed prior at multiple levels of management. Quota or not if you're BE it's because you're at the bottom of the totem pole.
