Somehow or rather, I feel some of our SLSes/Complexes are an overly paid bunch of people who ask rhetorical or redundant questions to those under them during meetings/investigations, just so that they can show their presence and justify their roles. And then, they will just leave a hell lot of mess and follow ups for the ground to clear after that. They will then continue to sit in their ivory tower while the ground will be fumbling for the follow ups. I rarely see any management who’s willing to go the extra mile to get their hand dirty and show their subordinates on how to get things done.
It’s always very easy to question, but providing a solution and spending the time to do the dirty work of following up is another. If u urself can’t prove that u can do it, then don’t ask the ground to do it. Churning things round and round ain’t fun yo.
HR should seriously look at these layer of fats to trim. That’s precisely where all the inefficiencies are.

DH also leave the company shows how people confidence in this company has been eroded. Struggling to communicate and motivate ppl in tough time shows leadership not just talking in the meetings and town hall presentations, stwardship, speak guided language. It is how to motivate people and engage to build trust at the very moments.

No one dares to say the truth why we continue to see people unhappy or quitting now. Truth is managers needs to be revamped and has integrity issues, there is nothing wrong at the bottom but scapegoats. For goodness sake, wake up and clean up the mess!

The no.1 reason why Exxon is doomed to fail : Leaders lack foresight and empathy . All they care is their own stock and dividends.
Look no further than GE, where the Jeff Imelt ( CEO after legendary Jack Welch who invented force ranking by the way) blamed the downfall to everything else except himself. Sounds familiar? Over paying many acquisitions ( XTO), denials to the hilt, politicking at all levels of managment, incompetent / compliant board, self interest ......after being kicked out of DOW Jones, GE like XOM continued its course which led to the downfall. Without a total revamp of the entire XOM leadership, the ship will sink as a matter of time. It is now a commodity company, fortunes entirely tied to crude price and nothing else.

Managers can work hand in hand with SLS and lpo lpsa ocvm each other as much as often they like and NLI LI each other.
Technicians dont have time not interested in all these b—s— best practices and gladly willingly whole heartedly to pass all these burden nonsense for managers and SLS to enjoy have fun.

Now we have too many SLS and lesser workers, one day all workers will be PIP or resign, SLS have to get their hands dirty to do all the work. Would be eager to see SLS do all the work w/o workers. Too bad, I don’t have the luck to see all these

“Singapore, these are some great examples and behaviours of how you make an impact ....SOP1 PF?? heh? ..... yes, great earnings despite CoV19” .... and we reward our executives with big bonus. Good job! Thank you! I need to take care of ourselves first and then I can take care of you (by chopping the working class?)

As a 20 something, I’m not sure making money only resonates with me. Sorry.

It’s not a question of “Singaporean are expensive”. Good employees are expensive. It’s the number of headcount that is the issue and this boils down to the management of the Company. Is the Company efficiently and productively run? You pay “peanuts”, you get mediocre workers and the Company suffer.

Bad times but but In any successful company, leaders have to build trust and partnership! Look around successful great companies, startup unicorns, people willing to work hard willing to generate ideas and they work together. Here you feel stabbing or threatened to be stabbed.. Trust is like I can tell everything I feel, what you feel is true although actual maybe not. Observe in daily interactions, do you have really open discussions on things say no to boss, boss being a boss not because he's genius or intellectually smarter, but because he can talk and have some courage. But what really need is great thinking capabilities, big heart big pictures, long term oriented, not self promoting not covering stories. Lacking of thinking, EMPATHY, but highly herirachtical, doom to react to NOs. In the long haul this create invisible barriers to build trust. Ppl do what they ask to do not they willing to do. Company fail not because workers not good but leaders. Agree ???

Exxonmobil simply treated staff as expendable and just another cost to minimise when the company is not doing well. So PIP is used to sack people at minimum cost and keep the rest in a climate of fear to sweat them and make them work harder and demand the moon.
Anyway the company key concern is
how to keep employees loyalty and morale after the disguised retrenchment. Exxonmobil don’t want employees they want slaves or servants.
It's so clear that Exxonmobil treated us badly, pays us the minimum and get rid of us at any opportunity thus not show any loyalty to us.

The problem is, when they get an offer after multiple no-replies and unsuccessful interviews, they are usually low-balled!
And why not?
If I am a prospective employer and knowing that you are bailing out of a sinking ship, I’d low-ball my offer to you, knowing that I would still get the best talent from an oil major, that money can buy.

I think those 50-somethings and older have already attained the lifestyle and assets they want/seek - like D10 FH landed homes (with mortgages fully paid up), multiple performance cars (bought full cash) and all their children having tertiary-graduated, high CPF balances, including gross surpluses in their above-RA accounts (accumulated over decades of 3-months-or-more bonuses, company stock options converted to cash and vestings from pension funds, etc.).
It is those mid-30’s to 40-somethings who will struggle with outstanding mortgages, car/creditcard/personal loans & overdrafts and still-schooling children - and they will be the ones sweating it out, if they get laid off soon.
I do not wish to be in their shoes!

Anyone feeling the never ending work piling in even though we are in a downturn? To cover those who have PIPed/quitted, more project initiatives to save more $$, more mangers trying to score point by squeezing more from the ground level etc
With these workload, I hope we don’t compromise on any reliability or safety issue...just feel like it’s a ticking time bomb
