The problem about staying while you are no leader (in EM context) is you continue doing your scope of work, which you will come to realize it's so narrow, and so EM centric. You will feel the comfort of staying in your position because of the pay. You may be lucky to move to gain new experience internally, whether it is something you like or not. But that also becomes lesser as time passes. Your skill may be confined if you don't take any action to improve beyond doing your work. Sooner or later, age catch up, you may fall into cruise mood, and your career will be dictated fully by the people above you. There is nothing you can do because no one hires EM centric with general skillset (for some positions) with such a pay and worse still you are the quiet one with little inter personnel skills. That's truly the end of 30 years of 9-5 job. I have seen many older colleagues who has to keep up just to put food on the table. Some days are fun with laughters with colleagues but beyond that it's just you know.... Surrendering your live over to corporation. When oil comes down, there goes your 9-5 job as well. Take action, get out of the rut early (if you are in one) so you won't regret. MONEY is not everything, if you have the time still.

EM SG is all about showing "leadership". If doing real work, burn and sweat only, you may get up to a lead/advisor or lucky ones gets some supervisory flavor. That's it. Live with that throughout your career. If can bear with that, money may be good still compare to outside. Just don't fall into low rank because high flyers with "leadership" climb above you. And PIP becomes your friend. They who are your juniors will one day give you direction and your ranking dependent on them. Can live with it? Good you will be rewarded with still good pay while it last.

Use to be good place to do real work until they messed up by promoting "high flyers" because of "leadership" capability. These people sitting on throne throwing questions at every corner, coining their so called own initiatives, and promoting their own kind. Those that can work, get things done but have less exposure because they are simply quiet by nature are thrown in doing rubbish work and these people will take forever to move up the ladder. Finally, they sack these people when times are bad and branded them as valuable but not align with company culture with little prospective. And now oil price back up to $80. I hope to see things turn around because I owe some career progression to some people in the company.

Where got failure? Both DW and GC have just said we are winning and we are winning so hard that others can’t compete with us. That’s why all of the management committee is getting huge fat bonuses, while others are getting encouraging increments. No?

Cigarettes with duty not paid is not company daiji leh. That one you need to ask customs why can bring so many duty free cigarettes over to SG.

Becoz of top exxonmobil failure
We the bottom ones the nmpt becomes their easy punching bag easy bullying target
Just cannot take it so many people are leaving and workload getting more and heavier for us but managers got so many so much free times to go around hunting Frontliners for lpo lpsa ocvm as if we are the wrong guilty and stupid ones after all these good times and years
Come on lah managers you all better find a better meaningful jobs before you all kena PIP also lah
Karma is real

Exxonmobil, please leave Singapore. It was nice before merger, it was okay just after the merger. Now it’s gone horribly wrong.

Because of you, i have a nice car, house and family. But also because of you, my life has turned out to be a mess. 20 years i’ve wasted.

Investigators are chasing their tails here with the previous shipment of Jet A-1, which is commonly used for passenger planes, which was “discovered” to have water in them.

As many here can figure out, Water will freeze on high altitudes due to colder temperatures and could cause a plane to lose propulsion.

Who is to blame for this recent mishap?

Perhaps the technicians and management are too busy with selling contraband cigarettes to even notice. There are many possibilities but one thing is for sure - you’ll never want to put water in your own car, much less an airplane carrying hundreds of people on board.

Taken from forums.salary.sg post on Exxonmobil Operations technician job, last page.

Thousands of duty unpaid cigarettes were found at Exxonmobil Jurong Isand facility. It is not known who actually owns them. While Jurong Island is a Protected Area and is guarded by armed auxiliary policemen and the army, many were stunned of the breaking news while some speculated whether the recent loss of income due to the non payment of bonuses may have led the Exxonmobil staff themselves to sell illegal / contraband cigarettes.

This is not the first time that such a huge bust up of illegal cigarettes were found. Just as recently as 2020, an unknown black plastic bag was found in front of the plant’s Firehouse were found to contain thousands of duty unpaid cigarettes.

Tough times….

I wonder if the management is looking into this. Seems no news so far even with the discovery last year. Oh well, Exxonmobil is really in an unstoppable downward spiral as it is.”

Investment banking at 10k and ups for fresh grads. Only if you are really strong.

Otherwise, be glad you can get a job at Exxon. We might be kicked out of Dow but we are still a big company.

So said your managers.

In comparison, GC is really uninspiring. And it seems her only achievement is that she kept the 3 months AWS for us. How about locally grown leaders. Nilch. Still expat heaven at EMAPPL. Good luck.

Can't help but compare the country manager of our competitor, Shell.
Looks like she isn't just a Shell person grown internally but actually has a decent track record.

If possible, try and find someone you can ask in real life. Very often, the veil of anonymity allows disgruntled folks to spew whatever cr-p they want.

All I'll say is this, if you believe traditional oil and gas companies have a future, then go ahead and join. We pay well and our assessment process, although much maligned by folks here, is truly no different from what you get outside. The negativity you are finding here is largely due to changes in the org which admittedly, has made it worse than before, but not necessarily worse than other companies.

If you don't see a future, then simply don't bother joining.

The whole issue between managers and workers bees or the managers and senior managers is lack of understanding, empathy, common ground, aligned long term vision and emotional connect. Many selfish goals kpi and deadlines so become battle ground of friction, no longer trust worthy, managers also don’t know how to provide constructive feedback and motivation, no company will be great with great culture and ppl, long term future is expected in this company as many intelligent ppl leave and more intelligent ppl don’t think worth to join, all these prove trust can save money and time, you can have all kind of verification and validation which means no trust essentially, which cost… wise chose wise options and leave, whoever have to stay or believe great future and prosperity likely cruise to the sunset in 10-20yrs chances it will shrink and rationalise when more alternatives energy and breakthrough take places

TBH, no idea why this thread is still alive. If u are that pi---d off - leave. If u have chosen to stay, then make it work la.

SG talent will be in po-p-state if the mindset continues to be so entitled. Get gift, recognition - complain. Say mgmt squeeze and get nthg - also complain. Ppl sacrifice time to make plans and to engage - still complain!!

Channel your anger elsewhere la. Not gd for health also
