Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Major Layoffs Coming Q2 2021

Ex-TSG(IT) leader here. I keep in touch with multiple people still at BNY and am being told that major layoffs are planned for Q2 2021 along with a potential real estate fire sale/lease termination. Let's face it, BNY has been in layoff mode continuously since early 2018, but with ongoing poor performance the upcoming one is apparently going to be large. Interesting factoid: in the 2018/2019 layoffs they let over 14,000 people go...did it monthly to keep it out of the news, but that number comes straight from a colleague who ran a report in the TSG system and is absolutely true.

Leave now if you can.

Do not leave. They want people to walk to avoid redundancy payments. Use your heads

Um, that’s a bunch of c-ap. I work here and a senior manager and know the real numbers are a quarter of that. Lord.

Why is Q1 not being lined up... why waste anymore time?
They are not providing a public service to employees.

“2018/2019 layoffs they let over 14,000 people go” never happened, not even close. Try 5,000 total.

OP not sure where you get your numbers from but you should get better quality friends

from 1q19 financial supplement you have 1q18 52.1k FTE and 1q19 49.8k FTE a difference of -2300

most recent 3q20 report has 48.6k a difference from 1q19 49.8k FTE of a drop of 1200

for a total of - 3500 FTE from 1q2018 to 3q2020 which includes voluntary quits retires etc.

hardly -14000 layoffs

broadly breaking 14k/50k is about 30%...we find it hard to believe the bank turned over 30% of its staff fired/hired in under 3 years... that means at your rate bank turns over its staff close to 100% every 10 years...that is a huge loss of expertise which would be impractical

Leadership must understand what freedom of speech means to implement within an organization. When your team is given a freedom of speech, this is the begging of an innovation and productivity. This company is like a communist regime with bunch of managers acting like heartless dictators suppressing employees and even fabricate things using people by guaranteeing their job safety to fire or lay-off people who are threat to those dictators. People can’t be productive under fear and intense pressure. Why America is great because of it’s freedom of speech, it’s law and order. This company needs a leaders who is ready hear and take responsibility to make it right without supporting thugs.

Company is doing canary deployment on Azure. When entire workload gets thrown on Azure, and they know it’s working, then you will see things changing. Azure AI team is working hard to automate financial domain, so good luck to Ops team! As you know OPS team takes months just to write 1 CICD pipeline, which a Azure guy will do in few hours! And same code with little modification works for all apps.Company will understand how bad to hire non technical managers because they can be manipulated by those YES men. Enjoy while it last. 3 things you can not hide for long - the SUN, the MOON and the TRUTH!

Would the real estate fire sale/lease termination be because of working from home full time?
