Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

The work environment is ridiculous

Sometimes it feels like high school all over again. Coworkers acting like it’s a popularity contest. Bullying here and there. And let’s not forget about those who backstab and gossip when you’re not around. I hate that I have to work with people like this. And before I get any negativity- I enjoy what I do. I just wish others would stop using with the BS and causing drama in my BU.

This is the most Pittsburgh ops post I’ve ever seen. I used to work in Pittsburgh on an ops team at it was literal hell, every day. Blatant discrimination from coworkers to one another about age, race, gender, what you like to eat for lunch, what you do for fun, whatever else they want to criticize or gossip about that day. CONSTANTLY putting their coworkers down at every chance they get. At least for me, managers didn’t engage in that behavior, but they also silently condoned it when they wouldn’t do anything to fix it or help those who were getting the brunt of it. The behavior of the employees I met was deplorable. Cliquey high schoolers aren’t as bad as some of the people I met.

I went to another office and left ops and it got so much better. There are like two halves to this company, the ops and tech people, and everyone else. Pay matches those halves as well.

I hope no one will have to endure that work environment again. If I were still in that job I would PRAY that we never go back into the office. It was a nightmare to walk in the door to those people every day.

One of the first thing I noticed when hired was that mid/upper management treated a lot of us like kids. I didn't notice it from my coworkers at all. Everything is top secret but it's probably so they can hide how little planning and managing they actually do.
We'd have mandatory training due by a certain date then get emails a month ahead of time saying it's not done.
Twice we moved to different buildings in my 15 year stint there. Each time it was top secret where and when we were moving as if they were in top secret negotiations. They easily could have told us they had it narrowed down to a few locations and keep us up to date on it. That would actually HELP their "negotiations".

So much drama in this place to distract from how BE some senior managers actually are. Light a fire here.. light a fire there.. "don't look at how cr4p I am at job" etc..

Get out and enjoy the real world folks. The grass IS greener!

@OP+1a6IUb1k, you nailed it 100%. Sad but this is how it was when I was with the firm before I got cut in January. Worst part was that I was doing the work of more than one person with no recognition and two consecutive BE ratings. Worst part was I was blamed for another co-workers shortcomings in their process. I am a true believer that what goes around comes around. Sad thing is I won't get to see it but that's okay. I've moved on with my life and now wake up every morning stress free and a renewed look on life after being in that hell hole of a job. Good luck and take my advise, get out while you still have a job, much easier to find work while still being employed.
