Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

It is becoming impossible to do a great job?

I have always been a perfectionist when it comes to work. I love my job and I try to do it as best I can... or so it was until recently.
Due to the amount of work I have to do now, I can no longer think so much about high standards and doing great work.
It becomes impossible to do a great job when you have to do so much work. That completely wears me down.

I suspect this feeling is known in many companies, many industries. Everything seems to be about profit, not quality. The financial services and tech industries are evolving rapidly, our job as employees is to deliver today, the industry will change the requirements in a year's time so why build something lasting.

At a micro level, for your own team, sure put efforts in, protect yourselves, but for the company and clients, no, do what is needed and not an ounce more, you get no reward.

Last year my boss asked why I had built an additional check into a process saying that if there was an error it would be better to blame it on human error than say the process was deficient. They want folks to be below BE after all and they want us to do more, not better.

Quit, you'll feel much better, a win/win situation. The company will get over their loss.
