Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Is there any hope that they will stop using this bad practice?

Someone already mentioned it, and I'll repeat it --- the forced ranking just doesn’t work here. There are a bunch of reasons why this is not a good practice and a bunch of reasons why that practice should be abolished. I doubt very much that this will happen, at least not in the little time I intend to stay here.

Once they see that minorities are receiving more BE ratings it will be abandoned or they'll start grading on a curve depending on your specific intersectional identity.

I agree with Me, many places use this and it is utterly unproductive. Managers shiuld be spending time developing staff not finding ways to punish them and manage them out the door. Companies should hire more in the HR space to help Managers handle the real poor performers more quickly, so Managers can focus on real issues.

It doesn’t work anywhere unless you’re one of the people who knows how to consistently get the highest ranking. From my experience (MetLife to be specific) once you get a rating you’re pretty much locked in to it unless they’re looking to justify getting rid of you in the mode of “we’re sorry but we had to give this low rating to someone and this time it’s you”. It seems that many of the big companies use this system and I agree it has to go.
