Afraid to go back to NYC

Shortly before everyone had to start working from home, NYC eased up big time on criminals via bail reform. Now crime has skyrocketed. Kind of nervous about going to the city and getting attacked on my way to work.

Crime in NYC has skyrocketed!! . Have 3 NYPD officers in my family, ALL of them say it has never been this bad!!! The media does not report a lot of it as it makes the city look bad.. Safety in NYC is a very valid concern… BNY just doest care…..

Well at least you can po-p in mop buckets on your way to the subway in new york, which might be better than the facilities in Pittsburgh.

Yes - this is a valid concern. Considering that the company doesn't treat its employees with any level of respect to begin with, I don't see any need to bend over backwards for this company's leadership. Speaking of company "leadership", I wonder how many of them will be taking the NYC subway?

@1njw+1bGA3vay why make this political? Being in the office with you and trying to hold a sensible conversation will be painful.

What nonsense. It has not skyrocketed, just gone up somewhat. Still less than half under Rudy. Stop watching Fox News. There is no ‘exodus’ as they may have u believe

I have no fear of returning to office. Just legitimate concerns about safety in NYC.
Only takes one incident to wake one up to the violence occurring on a daily basis in the streets, mass transit etc
Of course, Todd is probably thinking about these issues as he is driven to work 😎

Take SF as an example. An article cites almost half of residents are planning on moving out of the city due to rising crime and deteriorating quality of life. NY will follow and then Pittsburgh. Only a matter of time before there is no talent within the city and the company will need to pay much, MUCH, more for people like myself and the OP to work ar BNYM.

Love the corporate brown-nosing comments in reply to this person’s legitimate concerns. How are those knee pads holding up?

Excuses. If op is so afraid of NY, and returning to the office, find a job closer to where you live. I live in NY and work in NY. I am conscientious and don't have a fear of going to work.
This just sounds like someone whining that wants to continue to wfh and making excuses about going to the office for fear of crime. You came to the city before the pandemic and if you want to keep your job here in NY, you'll do it afterwards. Buckle up and be alert. You'll be fine.

They will need to beef up their security. They should offer a shuttle to the subway and anyone working past a certain hour should be able to take an UBER to the nearest train.
They should partner with the local police.
Of course they will never do that so make sure you have mace or pepper spray.

Pittsburgh has begun to put the same lax policies in place. Taking a page from the NY handbook. I agree, its scary and at some point not worth the pay. All things considered, the company will soon need to pay much higher salaries to get people willing to deal with inflation, long commutes, dangerous city problems (crime, homelessness, etc.) OR simply allow managers autonomy to make the decision to let their teams work remotely full time!

Just like the seventies ‘fun city’. They need some workers back in the city for fresh mugging victims
