Difficulty moving from B5 to B4

Had several interviews, even multiple rounds but haven't been able to land in a B4 role. Feeling dejected, I started interviewing externally and finally signed an offer today making WAAAY more than the 15% bump if I would have continued trying internally. I'm honestly not good at the internal politics needed to move up, but the career is now launched in a new direction with this move.

Honestly should have left years ago.

They tell you that you're competing against other more senior B4's for the same role as those try to make lateral moves. I've even heard (not sure if true) that some B3's were moved down to B4, so supposedly competing against them as well. It's a picture painted to you as near impossible to move.

I was told to "network" the day I was hired, if I wanted to move up.

my manager just gave me lip service that I would get a B4 role, finally just left for an external role that like you gave me WAYYYYYY more than the 15% bump I was looking for. Much easier climbing the ladder jumping ship. Loyalty doesn't pay.

Most internal jobs already know who they are hiring before the req is approved to post. They only post the req for the illusion of equal opportunity.

Can't say where I landed but did interview at a wide variety of other companies. Chase 4x, another regional bank, Perficient, Fannie Mae, an investment firm, Liberty Mutual.
