Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Use your vacation days

After a week away from this place, I feel like a new man. Nothing has changed within the company, but being away from all the toxicity and politics did wonders for me and my mental health. I'm not sure how long it will take for this feeling to fade away, but I was on the verge of breaking before I realized I had to do something. I wasn't ready for a drastic option of quitting, but a vacation was long overdue. It was the right move. I can't recommend enough getting away from here just for a few days.

That's Right. Take what you can get, and look hard for another job as well.

I'm shocked by the number of colleagues that refuse to take time off, or constantly seem to reschedule because something "important" too priority. If anything, that's the best time to take. If something fails when you're out that doesn't mean it is your failure. Will it somehow still be blamed on you for lack of having "proper" backup, despite you not having any direct reports or any organizational influence? Absolutely. But don't let that stop you from enjoying your deserved time. And also don't think cancelling time off will save your job.

After my week off in September, it took about a half hour after returning to work that I started thinking ahead to my next time off.
