Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Leaving BNYM

Made the decision to leave and making that move very shortly. It is maddeningly frustrating to have any talk of lateral or advancement within the firm when every application I ever submitted for a lateral or advancement or even a step up to be in another department was never even seen or acknowledged by HR according to 'My Career'. Truly, the only way to grow is to go.

@9fkz, sounds typical of Treasury Services. Saket can Saket.

They canned my boss the end of 2019 just months before we were committed to move all of our systems to Greenfield. It was already an ambitious deadline so when we were running behind my boss's boss promised to compensate for overtime to make it happened. I worked weekend after weekend and 18 hour days working through issues when we went live and got nothing. I brought it up a few months later and they gave me 5000 wow points. I should have told them off then and walked out the door but I didn't . I see Deep moved on to USAA a few months ago. Hope he shows a little more integrity there.

Since pandemic full time WFH productivity has been at historic highs, but that comes with rising PTSD, long hours, burnout, layoffs or resignations with no replacement reqs, and individuals and their teams asked to do more with less and no compensation. While corporate lip services initiatives to address these issues senior management lives in the clouds...and lacks any leadership to implement changes. The most talented staff are being taken advantage of...the only answer is to refuse with reason the extra work, confront direct manager (who will sidestep) compensation for OT, make sure to use all vacation...and leverage the new sick policy as added time off....and force Sr Management to adjust or terminate you with a severance. Nothing will change until employees start standing up for themselves. Better to be united, than divided.

I don’t regret leaving for one minute. Anyone who works in or has worked here in a critical function as an SME experiences some degree of PTSD. It took a little over a year for the nightmares to stop. Few companies are this toxic.

I left a few months ago after 19 years. Best decision I’ve ever made. It’s like a breath of fresh air. What’s strange is I know all large companies have their issues, but even I had no idea how toxic that place was until after I left.

By the way it’s been almost 5 months and I still don’t have my personal belongings!

Onward and upward! In the case of BNYM, the grass really is greener on the other side.

I encountered the same issue while in Subaccounting division. I gave up applying entirely roughly 5 years ago. The 5 years prior to that - I was never contacted by HR - EVER.

These were all lateral moves. And all the while the CIO at that time encourage us to apply for jobs anywhere in the company. This apparently was there attempt to allow employees the ability to work from one office and be in an entirely different business unit. Great idea, but that only works if your HR department (and BNY overall) really wanted to hire internal people.

Since the beginning of the Peakon surveys, whenever the question asks what would you liked changed at BNY, I answer - stop firing employees so that you can either hire younger/cheaper employees or offshore our work.

Believe me you will not regret it and you will be a changed person in the matter of one month's time from when you leave. To be able to breathe to not have a nervous stomach to not know if the grim reaper was going to tap your shoulder on a certain Monday morning or not is such a blessing. The job market is so open right now and the world is literally yours. Best of luck to you.
