I have long debated whether or not to ask for a raise. How many of you here have asked about getting raise and what are your experiences?

“outlook not good”
Request denied. OP's cousin Eddie is coming for the holidays.
So, how did it go?
When they divide the pool money they already know who their going to give what to. The suck ups will get a nice chunk if they are bonus eligible and their raises will be better than most other hard working employees. Those who don't spend their days up their managers butts will get the left over and be told their lucky they have a job and got something. This company is a total sh-t show. Good luck with that!
Your raise, if any, was determined last year at least 6 months before you even got your final goals. There is no credible way to assess your performance, let alone rank you against others. There is no way to simply get a raise by asking with the sole example of getting your manager to counter an offer. Even that can change after your manager OKs it.
Oooof. Good luck with that, unless you are a director level or above.
It won't do any good. Management has NO power to manage.
if you have an offer on hand they will scramble to give you an off cycle promotion or counter offer. happens a lot in my org.
Even in cycle raises of more than 2% are pretty unheard of, but the excuses for not getting one are well known!
Good luck with an out of cycle raise. That takes an act of God. Not only do you need to be an indispensable person on a critical project, you need to be ready to walk out on the spot and you need to have a serious offer letter in hand.
Really, if you have all of that the correct move is to accept the offer and leave.
It's pretty unlikely. They'll just tell you it's not possible. You're better off going to a different company like so many of us. Good luck though!
I got promoted to a manager role a full year before I saw the increase in paycheck. Find an outside opportunity.
Out of cycle raises are nearly unheard of. Your best bet is during your year end review, but even then there’s a set pool of money your manager has to figure out how to divide up.
