Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Can I negotiate an internal move at BofA?

Any success? Will they rescind the offer?

Manager here (who has unapologetically poached talent from other groups). Definitely counter. Don't be shy. If they've made you an offer, they want you.

You can say "I'm really excited about the opportunity to join this team, but it's a big move for me to move to another group." if they balk, then add "It's a lot more responsibility." Don't elaborate. Keep it short. Let them be uncomfortable. The silence is your friend.

Then, add you will need a 2-3 week break before you start the new role (something like, long-standing wedding your sister has postponed since last year or parent's 50th anniv that you are hosting - some big milestone - they love those. Plus, you may not get the time again.)

Once you make the move, you will likely get no further increase or at best 0.5%-2% max per year, so make the most of this moment and good luck!

I started as a temp for a year and was offered $95k as a Full time employee. I countered for $100k and they accepted. Good luck.

You should always counter. In my experience, I was always offered lower than what my immediate peers were making. I would suggest countering higher than what you’re actually willing to accept, to leave room for HR to accept your counter offer or match what it is you’re truly looking for. Best of luck - there’s no harm in trying!

A coworker just moved to a new role internally and countered and the counter was accepted.

My experience, for what it’s worth.

Took two weeks for a counter offer response from HR, and the answer was no. Mind you this two weeks that then delayed my start date.

I asked if there was a counter to my counter request and I was told no, the offer was fair.

A total joke, but in all fairness it was 7% for a lateral move. FFS the bank made Billions and could not cough up 3 more percent.

There is nothing wrong with asking - don’t not ask and potentially leave money on the table.
