Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

7 years in Banking IT (BI)

I am getting an offer to take a job in a Fortune 500 IT shop for a large food company. After 7 years in Banking do I make a move? The money is is the same, the role is very similar. I just think I've accumulated a lot of functional knowledge that would be lost. Thoughts?

You'll be moving from a highly regulated industry to a less regulated one. Some companies like that kind of experience to help them improve the way they do things, especially in IT. That should make up for any functional knowledge you may be leaving behind.

OP - Be open to the opportunity and the knowledge that you are likely to GAIN, rather than focusing on the knowledge LOST from leaving BK. New job, new industry, new challenges. Go for it! The Bank (and others like it) will still be there if the new job doesn’t work out.

Take it, unless you like to suffer here.
Let me repeat: take. it.

I would take it in a heartbeat.
