Thread regarding DIRECTV layoffs

DirecTV Layoffs 2025

My inside sources are advising us of additional layoffs throughout the year which will impact all departments (20% of our total workforce). Layoffs will be done frequently, surgically, and in phases rather than the typical annual massive layoff; Wild Bill wants to prevent panic and avoid the negative headlines showing that this company is in a freefall .

I was also advised our leaders will be conducting and closely monitoring a company wide “stress test" to see how efficient and effective teams can handle the added pressure with the ongoing shrinking headcount. This will help them eliminate jobs at a more rapid pace and includes Line 1, 2, and 3 positions.

To add salt to our wounds, our leaders continue to steal, plunder and siphon millions from our revenue streams while we say goodbye to many of our talented colleagues and live in an uncertain future. Its profits over people!! Many of my subordinates are under complete distress. We spend more time discussing mental health and company layoffs instead of completing meaningful work. What a terrible place to be yall!

@ay Ay - when you got notice of Surplus and the extension, did you have to accept the extension or could you leave at 2 weeks and still get severance?

@bs+1, Absolutely correct, that is the environment in which we work created by a leadership team running a declining business with constant fear of losing your job. You get a gold star for discovering the obvious. Half the people in your org are smart.

Thank you Cyn Collins for your insight. You are always here to report these juicy secrets. I work in Ad Sales and we are falling apart. Theres no trust in the company or people we work with. No one can speak up and we live in constant fear. This place is a toxic wasteland. Stay hush, keep your head down, and brown the nose when possible. Thats the only way to survive.

Don't also forget that our wonderful leadership team fired dedicated and excellent employees for not taking the COVID Vaccine. A vaccine that has proven almost no benefit. But, awesome job Wild Bill! You are an amazing leader. Thanks for running the company into the ground.

This is right in line with what I'm seeing. I was part of the layoff on bonus day, but with an extension through next month. People are stressed and strained; I see it on their faces and hear it in their voices.

We know this is a declining sector, and I wouldn't be surprised if it shutters and gets sold off for pieces by TPG. They are already bringing in Infosys across the board to cut costs with offshore labor.

Well stated Cyn! Many of you will be filing for unemployment soon and the good news is in California you can receive unemployment and severance (if any) simultaneously. We all have known for years that these uncertain times were coming. What we didn't understand was the manipulation for us to stay so our leadership could meter the reduction in force as not to hasten the failing business.
