Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

I actually like my India colleagues

I'm US based but I like my India colleagues. Every other comment seemed like it was complaining about offshoring but the vast majority I work with are great coworkers who happen to live with a god awful work culture.

The issue isn’t with our colleagues in India, every culture has its own way of working, and that diversity should be respected. The real concern lies in the business model that allows companies to relocate services purely for cost-cutting. As a British person, this isn’ about race or nationality — it’s about cultural connection. When I call my bank, I value speaking to someone who understands the local context, just as someone in India might prefer being served by someone familiar with their own environment. Let’s be honest: banks and large corporations aren’t making these decisions based on cultural compatibility they’re driven by lower labour costs and shareholder value. That’s the bottom line.

Bunch of dopes. They can’t get from step A to step D if it required anything thinking at all.

Agree overall. One consistency about your comment - rules in place to prevent them from handling certain things. They can not be allowed to rubber stamp anything when it comes to production issues. They also tend to communicate and solve issues through lenghty emails. They also have been found to be weaker on optimization and performance. They address patches and temporary issues manually instead of permanently. They are fabulous people and will go to the ends of the Earth but they are what they are. They too are dealing with a bad job market which in a way is a saving grace for BNY. Why? Because when things improve for India, we will lose brainpower there too. And when that happens, just hiring ‘freshers’ off the street isn’t going to work. And then, check mate Robin….

It’s not the people on a personal level that are the problem. I like them just fine. It’s the work culture they follow. Everything black and white. Do not ask them to think outside the box or be analytical. If it’s not in a procedure it’s not getting done. It’s why specific rules are in place to prevent them from handling certain things. Some teams attempt to over leverage them. But as a whole I think they are fine people who aren’t afraid to reach out and ask questions and are always pleasant to talk to.

For the most part, I'm not mad at the worker bees in India either. And I agree, India's senior management su-ks just as bad, if not worse, than the "leadership" in the US.

Oh Yeah, sure you are Sabu.
What’s next? Start shouting racism? The only thing stagnant is your education and upbringing.

I'm white and in the US but you can continue to baby rage about your stagnant career on an anonymous message board (it's everyone else's fault but yours).

I agree.. and of course you got down voted. Every one on this forum is mad at the wrong people. Our coworkers in India are just doing their jobs.. imagine hating people for that and blaming them for taking your jobs instead of rightfully placing the blame on the sh*tty corporation who decides to outsource your jobs and pay people pennies to do it.
