So they are looking for something cheap and open? Let's see what happens when their gov data gets stolen and put on the dark web. Been there, done that.
This is not caused by msft, they know our Gov backdoors into our products and they do not like it. The Danes are just the first to move, the rest of Europe will follow soon. Not a major ding but it will hurt a lot. #winning
Makes perfect sense when customers' needs are ignored and they instead become the product.
Denmark’s Ministry for Digital Affairs is beginning a transition away from Microsoft software, replacing Windows and Microsoft 365 with Linux and LibreOffice. Starting next month, half the ministry’s employees will switch to open-source tools, with full adoption expected by autumn. This is part of a four-year strategy focused on digital sovereignty, aiming to reduce reliance on U.S. technology and cut costs.
The decision also avoids the complications of managing devices as Windows 10 approaches its end of support. However, officials say the ministry can revert to Microsoft software if the transition proves too difficult.
Denmark is not alone - two major cities, Copenhagen and Aarhus, are planning similar moves. Political leaders have cited concerns over U.S. tech dominance and past political tensions as reasons to support open-source alternatives. A similar initiative is also underway in a German state, where 30,000 employees are being moved to Linux and LibreOffice.
