Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

People should finally accept it

Regardless of what anyone thinks is ethical or not, all of us here are just numbers on a spreadsheet. Unfortunately, for BNYM, no one is special and irreplaceable.
Why is it so hard for people to accept that? It sounds harsh, but I think that the sooner we accept it, the sooner we will realize that our career is in our control and pull ourselves out of slump.

Please, can’t you give these two people and their families some space?

You do not owe any company Loyalty! They could care less about you.

@1yru+1kRRYPpm I did not ask for the names of the individuals; I only asked when and the location. I didn't ask for their names due to privacy reasons. Is asking just for the date and location, but not their names, is a violation of privacy?

@aoo

Family privacy for grieving would certainly outweigh your desire to know the details. It has nothing to do with your workplace so please respect the families.

@aoo+1kRRYPpm when this happened and which location they worked, may I ask?

It's hard for me for a few reasons.

  • I've spent DECADES trying to help this company reach it's potential and each new "leader" ignores the most obvious, basic management improvements we could easily make.
  • I own a lot of BK stock and don't believe it's cost effective to treat employees so poorly for no reason.
  • I don't think headcount should be drastically changed based on quarter to quarter market conditions. We need long term planning.
  • I don't think it saves the company money to pay someone for months to do nothing when you could obtain the same reductions through attrition.
  • If you do get rid of people, it should be AFTER you increase efficiencies, not before.

etc, etc

We know that! But some of us here are too old to change jobs. A severance package is better than last in first out in another bank.

I have witnessed how two young employees who died tragically and unexpectedly were handled: “presence unknown” and postings were put out in the next 24-48 hours. We are all just expendable numbers.
