@eb OMG let’s hope not! I thought Walmart learned its lesson about outsourcing to India. Even though Walmart has a pretty large tech staff there, and even though they are Walmart badged, it’s still India and that opens up a whole host of undesirable issues. I’d much prefer what IBM and Apple are doing - bringing on US tech students as college sophomore co-op employees, helping with tuition and guaranteed placement after graduation. That way Walmart can avoid any more Indian saturation and give US tech jobs to US workers.

@dk You are correct. It would be interesting to see if any of the Hoboken victims get offers to relocate to the Home Office. Also remember, there isn't anything being done at the Home Office that can't be done in Indian, cheaper. With H1B costs soaring, AI taking over more roles, making others require less skill, and the complete money sink and bloat of the new Home Office campus, India becomes a very economical option.

There’s an arithmetic computation that grew out of the old BIS (butt in seat) EXPENSE cost Walmart used for ‘office associates’. The new formula takes more into account than just salaries and benefits, but adds commercial office rent/lease cost, number of an individual’s weekly productive hours, supplies, perks and catering, even paid parking, tolls and more. Comparing this all inclusive cost by location (Bentonville, Hoboken NJ and CA), in 2024 alone Walmart stood to clawback $200+ musd per year once CA and NJ were closed. In 2026 it’s estimated to be more and even more in 2027. The new CEOs job is to aggressively attack that timeline, consolidate resources at the new Bentonville campus and redirect hundreds of millions of $$ to a host of new AI initiatives. The thinking is simple, do business where the cost of doing business is cheaper.

It’s true. There’s nothing being done in Hoboken that can’t be done at the home office. And by the way, those folks up in Hoboken have known for some time their days were numbered. It’s been no secret, and some are sitting back just waiting for that layoff meeting with HR they knew was going to come.

No huge surprise here. It’s the leftovers from one of the biggest merger mistakes in history. Eventually, under the guise of consolidating command and control in Bentonville, everything in NJ and CA will be gone. We’re just surprised Walmart has dragged them along this long. And honestly, there’s nothing they are doing in Hoboken or Bay Area that can’t be done at HO. Walmart will save a ton of money by cutting both places as quickly as possible.

@OP Soon as they get AI where they want it, you're all getting laid off. Maybe they will pay you to protest your laying off.
