Thread regarding IBM layoffs

What is the most useless product from IBM that you had to deal with?

IBM is well know for creating things that don't work but look very good in the power point slides so let's build an inventory of such offerings here.

@OP most useless IBM product - how about those fabled Quantum chips that Arvind keeps mumbling about ? Will they ever see the light of day ? Not in a billion years. They are the most fantastically useless pieces of sh-t that would be fabricated and they would burn up immediately on the IBM factory floor without even operating for a nanosecond.

That's Arvind's legacy to the IBM shareholders, investors and to the world, since he, the smug faced Dario Gil and the Pipmunks collect share of 1 billion dollars from the US government.

Of course, IBM India HR liar-bot rage-bait troll shill spanky-pants id--t loser parasite will be there to collect his share of the loot too with his failed IBM badges and ask for his promotion (or rather demotion) to be janitor to his sugar daddies, Arvind and Krabanaugh.

Does IBM even still sell Cloud Paks? They were always just bundles of old sh!t with a new name, but I haven't heard them mentioned in forever.

@ee After reading the original posting and your response, I felt that you were being most uncharitable regarding IBM innovations. However, let me tell you about one particular machine that I will always remember from my IBM days...the PS/2 Model 55SX.

This machine was unremarkable in most aspects...a Micro Channel motherboard, an Intel 386SX processor, 3.5 inch floppy disk, 50 MB or so hard disk, VGA graphics. We're talking about a PC from 1989-1992 or something like that.

At the time, what struck me as id--tic was the placement of the power switch. The 55SX had a front-mounted power toggle "switch", and a rear-mounted power supply. The power supply in the rear had its own toggle switch, and to actuate it there was this metal wire that connected the front toggle mechanism to the real toggle switch in the power supply at the rear.

So as you flipped the front toggle "switch" on and off, all you'd be doing is moving a piece of plastic, then the front-to-back wire, then the real toggle switch on the power supply.

This kludge told me all that I needed to know about IBM's vaunted list of accolades.

Cloud pak for data and their clones: Watsonx.data and IBM software hub. Not software with some bugs, more like bugs with some software.

@e7
HR process to fire you has been initiated today. It might take a couple of days to go through. To be clear, you are being fired (Not RA'ed) for breach of products development confidentiality.

PC Jr. OS/2. Micro Channel. Token Ring. IBM Simon. SNA. SAA. ISC. PROFS. Any internal IBM website. Lotus SmartSuite. Lotus Notes. I am getting tired writing this and having gone thru all of these garbage items.

@dj

Wasn't I supposed to be RA'd today? Some commenter said that I was giving out confidential information regarding my teams Watson X Challenge project.

A personal anecdote... I was RAed in the 20-teens and had worked on several products. All were embarrassingly bad. Management only cared about product image, didn't give a hoot about quality. I was hired by an acquisition and stuck around because I was close enough to retirement to wait for an RA. If I had to update my resume again, after the dates, location, and positions I held at IBM, I'd write "Cringe" as the job description. The moral is: if you're still young, get out of that place or you'll likely regret it later.

Every technology company has products that succeed, products that fail, and products that get discontinued. IBM, Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon, Oracle, and countless others all have examples.

What's interesting is that some people can only talk about IBM's failures while ignoring the technologies that power banks, airlines, governments, healthcare systems, and many of the world's largest enterprises. If IBM's products were as "useless" as some claim, the company wouldn't still be a global leader in enterprise technology after more than a century.

@b9 especially true for the asswipes in F&O, Research, Marketing and Consulting.

All of them could be let go yesterday and the company would still function without them. AI could do 90% of their jobs.

AskHR - Another piece of sh-t powered by watson x that hardly ever gives correct answers, then you end up sending email for support and hope that you get the right person, finally you give up and ask your manager or coworkers if they can help - IBM calls this automation and wants you to repeat the same client zero success story for the customers. Absolute Bullsh-t !

Cognos Analytics - total hodgepodge of analytics, the AI is fake, and the whole thing is designed by people who hate humans. There are far better BI products out there.
