Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

mid year reviews

Just read mine and it looked wonderful until it says I should do more. Ok I work 10-11 hrs daily yet my rating is "tracking towards below expectations" I felt I just got slapped.

I got exceeds expectations at year end review last year, and was laid off a month ago. Doesn't matter what you do you're still under the g-n at BNY.

You must do the needful and quietly quit now to focus on looking for your next role outside of this dumpster fire. Do the absolute bare minimum. Sorry you were fooled into thinking that putting more hours into your career at BNY would benefit you in some way.

Should have known that BNY is a battle ground. Had a lousy review which I replied back I would add my rebuttals on time. Coincidentally, my mgr decided to have this session today the day before due date. I was in foul mood due to being swamped at work. I am at a cross road after this incident where I figuratively blew gasket. Will get cataract surgery soon I have been contemplating a while. I am certain this job is not worth it.

Time to focus on finding something better and strategize your exit for maximum gain. As others have said on this site, it’s not worth it to work 11-12 hour days, weekends, etc. for this place. You’d be a fool to do so.

the bank knows everyone’s a “good employee” so they have to target anyone who isnt AI enables by now or utilizing it in some silly way. this is their excuse for the next 2 years

Your manager most likely has no control over what you're rated, except that they're willing to deliver that news in order to keep their own job.

It has little to do with you. "Do more" is when you have no performance issues, but you're over 40, have a long tenure, and they think they can get someone cheaper since they do not value competence or insitutional knowledge at all. It is so insulitng!

Start looking. They are about to roll you down a long, rocky hill.

I would take that as an invitation to "do more" of the following:

  • Not giving a sh!t

  • Not working for disingenuous ingrates any more than the standard 8 hr. day, and never on weekends, holidays, or PTO days

  • Job searching at other companies

Makes me wonder whether your manager knows what you do and how hard you work. It’s really a shame. You are not alone. So many on this site are reporting similar issues of managers gaslighting their associates and providing little to no indications that “performance” is an issue. BNY is not a performance driven culture so the forced distribution mode adopted from the McKinsey model is just wrong.
