Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Starlink Is Coming. We’re Counting Badge Swipes.

While Starlink is pushing the industry forward and Wall Street is raising concerns about what that could mean for AT&T, we’re still consumed by RTO, presence reports, and building a new headquarters. That’s the only focus here and it feels completely backwards.

Instead of talking about how we’re going to compete with Starlink, people are talking about badge swipes and making sure they sit in a chair for eight hours before heading home. Time that many employees once spent working extra is now spent commuting. The result is 8&skate culture where people check the box, do their eight hours, and leave. That’s not how you build an innovative company, but that’s the culture Stink has created with RTO, FTW, and Presence monitoring.

At the same time, we’re spending billions on a new headquarters nobody wants while facing one of the biggest competitive threats the company has ever seen. Shouldn’t the priority be improving our competitive position, controlling costs, and attracting and retaining the talent needed to compete?

The conversation should be about how we beat new competitors, not how many days people are in what office. If leadership wants this company to be successful, the priorities have to change. Right now, it feels like we’re looking inward while the competition is looking forward.

Time is running out, and if things don’t shift soon there won’t be an AT&T left for these egos to lord over.

You're not going to compete with Starlink you goofs. You are a fiber factory - nothing else. Sure, you'll maintain a presence in wireless mobility maybe managed network services, though your bulk residential offerings are the worst in the industry. Oh, but you have got your name on a lot of sports stadiums, so there's that!

Seriously though, no... Elon doesn't consider you part of the competition. Your silly employees are bottom feeders. You seriously complain about driving to the jobsite so you can stare at a clock for 8 hours pretending to work. How could you ever be anyone's competitors?

Maybe you should relocate to Mexico or South America. That seems more your speed.

@OP
“ but that’s the culture Stink has created with RTO, FTW, and Presence monitoring.” I seriously thought “stink” was an acronym for Starlink.
But if they’re so great and Elon is such a fine upstanding guy, go work for him. Be a part of the stink revolution that you and the other shills claim is taking over the world.

Since the only thing they care about is me being here 8x5, I come in 8x5, the other stuff I do during that 8 hours is just so I’m not bored to death, some call it work, but it’s pretty easy. I get paid pretty well just to come here, hang out and occasionally sit on a teams call. The thing the bugs me the absolute most about all this is we could be focusing on driving revenue up, improving operations, innovating, but my bosses don’t seem to care about any of that. Just what my presence report says, what’s in my moose, don’t forget your PLE courses and make sure to complete your mid year accomplishments (what accomplishments?). I can talk about doing xyz to make or save $, but they don’t care. If it wasn’t their idea, then they don’t bother and you’re a squeaky wheel, so I don’t say a thing, just nod and do whatever mundane thing they want me to do. I really used to care and I really used to want to climb the ladder, now I realize none of that mattered and there is no where to go. So here I sit, bored at the office, collecting a paycheck, planning my next move.

What gets measured is what gets done. Butts in seats is the focus here. We should be a chair company!

$18 target stock price from Wells Fargo. AT&T will be left out of any Starlink deal.

@OP what gets measured gets done as the saying goes. So they measure swipes and hours, that’s what they get and the obsessive focus with it. Egos won’t allow a step back to balance work and life. It would be admitting defeat and the pattern will continue. Declining morale, revenue, stock, market based performance, and even loyalty. All spiraling downward unlike our debt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ab I'd probably stop touting DOGE. It literally didn't work on any front. But you do you, boo!

Starlink is double the price for half the speed. This is why only people with no other option ever buy it.

@ae are we not part of telecom? Anyway the projected impact is worse for T than TMUS or VZ.

See this is the thinking of someone who cares. They don’t. Everything they care about is immediate.

The biggest immediate need in their minds is to kick out the old people with long tenure and give the impression to shareholders that we are adopting AI and doing well.

The building could be on fire and they’d smile and tell us to cheer.
