Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Global team call

The function I work in had a global team call today. It was framed as an update about the reorganization. Leadership did not have ANY new information. They literally said what was previously announced in an email, then did 20 minutes of Q&A that mostly consisted of responses like “We are early in the process. We don’t know that quite yet, but we’ll tell you when we have more information”. Waste of time.

KD needs one last layoff…a real hard layoff. One simplification is freeze salary in place. This will send a no nonsense message. Layoff based on employee numbers or lottery so that the bp mafia can be displaced.

Why is GB still in his seat? Is he special? Connected to the monarchy? A hit with the female staff? Will GB be capable of fixing some of his messes?

How long will Gorden B. be able to slide and take unacceptable level of time with what was obvious when Meg was announced as CEO last December. GB could not read the tea leaves? Take room temperature? Or is GB running the clock ⏰. It was imperative for him to deliver…this is what we should have do on but never did because of the BP machine? And now with Meg kicking his ba--s all of a sudden is proactive and visionary? Who buys this nonsense..GB out in 6 months or less and

BP Nakika team were required to develop an initiative for reduced cost, shared service support, reduced employee and contractor numbers. what did the empowered asset manager deliver? thought the above would be satisfied with a 90 slide PowerPoint slide deck…pretty much recycled from other presentations. They were striving for simplicity but made it all about technocratic principles and not offshore capabilities and support and buy-in. Shell received 3 hour presentation and lost total confidence in BP office staff. Shell selling entire JV. BP should do the second follower and also sell the asset. Redeploy very talented offshore staff to other assets. It’s going to happen sooner or later. Meg has been informed that the middle management does not posses common business sense.

You have to understand that employees are not their primary focus. The order of priority for their audience is: 1. Showing investors that we are getting more efficient and focused, 2. Getting the org right, and 3. Telling employees what is going on. Notice that investors come before getting the org right. That’s just how it goes. You will be the last to find out what is happening with this reorg.
