If everyone gets laid off, who’s left to develop the product and fix bugs? It’s already tough. Also, AI tools like Claude don’t reliably do what you ask.

Claude is there to supplement the employee's work. So if it took 10 employees to develop then now it takes 5. That is the mindset and the lesson will be is that you need 5 that run claude and 5 to fix everything that claude broke as shown at other tech companies that have rehired their laid off developers
Any complaints or issues can be addressed to the AI bot who will talk in circles until you give up. Nothing will get fixed. Then Verizon executives will collect the bonuses on the short term savings from ridding themselves of valuable employees. It's all about the $. Then it becomes the next management's problem once all these failures come to light. That's always the way it's been. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
OP brings up a good point. AI is just a Baby at this point. AI has not evolved to a Powerful Robot yet. It reminds me of back when we had the Netscape browser, it was very limited in what it could do. This is where we are at in the AI world. Tech companies are training AI using our data, this is the reason for the mega data centers. All the data is being dumped there, sorted, parsed, filtered, cataloged, etc. Once it has "all" the information, it will basically be smarter than anyone on the planet. They will then take that "brain" and implant it into Robots which will be able to carry out any thing a human can do. But we are years away from this. Some of the execs act like we can do this now, but they are delusional.
It doesn’t which is why “everyone” didn’t get laid off
Umm, if everybody gets laid off, who has any money to buy Verizon's products?
