@3wgd are you serious talking about IBM's "work in progress"? Unless you're uninformed and clueless, it's hype to point to an ASIC doing old technology of systolic arrays while AMD and nVidia have products already.

Using Intel and nVidia is cheaper you say? Vela uses old Intel's Cascade Lake introduced in 2019. Why? Yes it's cheaper because these aren't used by customers at the IBM cloud ..

Wasn't Watson supposed to be an AI supercomputer? What happened..? LOL

Don't you see the obviouse management at research invents hyped pet projects and repeatedly fails. What was said about those trying again and again failures. ?

Until Sr executives are replaced with knowledgeable leaders, I don't see anything changing and Arvind big speech on AI won't go anywhere with Vela or other such past pet projects. Have you heard about quantum computing? Ha... Great hyping for 10+ years saying oh it's just around the corner...

Wasn't Arvind leafing research before? Is that the results? ... The IBM ship is taking in a lot of water..

Very sad and pathetic to see the down the drain spiral but cannot be helped. Board of directors seems to be decoration only...

Cheaper development to do Xeon and nvidia for now.

Vela… give it a year, then it will disappear and IBM will never talk about it ever again.

Sad and waste of resources... This is a layoffs site but I guess that team in research will soon be laidoff.. white elephant.

I wonder who was the executive in charge of this? So clueless it's a crime. Of course past Power10 hype is gone. Now using old Intel's Cascade Lake? Seriously? Looks like some old servers at IBM cloud were not used so they made them an AI supercomputer.
