Open seating has me in tears

I know it’s ridiculous (maybe I’m PMSing), but I am literally crying because I hate the open seating so much. This is horrible! The lights are so bright that ha have a ponding headache, keyboard & mouse are NOT ergonomic (so I’ll be getting injections in my wrists before long), no mouse pad, not even a trash can at my desk! It’s so cold in here that my toes are numb, I hear everyone on the phone, the entry door keeps slamming shut, all the damn desks are actually reserved (via a jacket on seats, photos at desks, etc).. so what’s the point?! I HATE THIS!

Oh, day 1 assistance or welcome bags?! Nope! The onsite person had no clue how to set up the stupid monitor, phone, etc. They said we need to bring our headset home to charge them?! Uh… what?!

What in the absolute d-mbest $hit ever is going on here?!?!!!!

Treating employees like a herd of cattle is a metaphorical expression that suggests a company is dehumanizing and disregarding the well-being and individuality of its employees. It implies that the company sees employees as mere resources to be controlled and manipulated, rather than as valuable individuals with their own needs and aspirations. While the phrase itself may have negative connotations, it is important to note that the search results provide a mix of perspectives on this topic. Some articles argue for treating employees like cattle, emphasizing the need for efficiency and productivity
However, these viewpoints are not widely accepted or supported.
The majority of the search results highlight the importance of respecting and valuing employees as individuals. They emphasize the need for positive and respectful treatment in the workplace. The comparison to cattle is seen as dehumanizing and counterproductive to creating a healthy and motivated workforce.
It is crucial for companies to recognize the value of their employees and create a positive work environment that fosters respect, appreciation, and individual growth. Treating employees with dignity and recognizing their contributions can lead to higher motivation, productivity, and overall satisfaction
In conclusion, treating employees like a herd of cattle suggests a lack of respect and consideration for their individuality and well-being. It is important for companies to prioritize a positive and respectful work environment that values and supports their employees.

Quit? Really? Jobs in many markets are not so easy to land, especially if you're older. How about if the bank cleaned up its act and started emulating best in class professional work environments, including remote and hybrid options? The bank used to have a striving for excellence, but no more. These new open offices aren't professional, sanitary, or healthy.

Poor lighting can also do havoc to your health. Artificial lighting, in particular, has many negative effects on your wellbeing when uncontrolled. For starters, too much artificial light can cause eye damage in the long run. (This also holds true for your computer’s light; sitting in front of a too-bright monitor for too long can cause headaches, fatigue, and stress.)

Omg I thought I was the only one who thought the lighting was too much. There are OSHA GUIDELINES for in office lighting and Jax is not in compliance!

So quit! Go find a different job instead of complaining about the lighting or where you have to sit.

Temped to bring in poster board and duct tape and build a makeshift cubicle around the open table desks. Buy the big pieces of project board used for middle school science fairs.

I being my own keyboard, mouse, and noise cancelling headphones.

It’s absolutely the worst. I dread every day I have to be in the office due to open seating. I miss my old cubicle where I at least had some personal space.

Yup this is just one tactic they will pull to get people to leave with no severance. Bank went from 218k to 213k in 6 months. They want to be at 210k by year end. Expect more pain ahead.

Ours is being converted right now. I absolutely dread it. I'm already pi---d off half the day with all the loud voices and I still at least have half walls around my desk. I can't imagine how I will concentrate in the new set-up.

Wow! I am so sorry you are having to deal with that. I think my building is a aways away from doing that seating but when they do I bet I will be saying the same that you are. It’s not PMS. It’s straight BS.

They want you to quit. Headcount reduction so they can continue to claim "responsible growth" and "operating leverage."
