When I joined BNY, I felt motivated, challenged and inspired by Bank’s unique position in global financial markets. But by the time I left, I was equally demotivated by cliques, favoritism, lack of new projects in my department, overhiring during post pandemic, not enough work for everyone in the team, toxic micromanagement and many other things.
Culture is changing. Leaving BNY was a difficult decision for me. But I needed to take this step for my career growth.

Now that’s the Bank that I know…
“ not enough work for everyone in the team”.
Do tell! Our team has no possibility of completing our work, and that’s before an ever increasing backlog.
Where exactly is this Oasis in BNYM?
BNY erodes ambition at an appalling rate. I always felt sad when a saw a young person joining.
You know what I hate? Having nobody up above having our backs on anythjng for one. And as a manager, babysitting my team because they don’t know how to be adults . I have enough to do and having to repeat instruction to them over and over isn’t one of them, but I guess that’s why you all feel micromanaged when you have to be or else actual work won’t get done . Guess it’s easier to blame mgmt than take responsibility
Sounds like it’s Arek’s time of the month again.
What did you find that motivated, challenged and inspired you in what made you think that the Bank had some unique position in global financial markets?
I’ve worked at three Custody Banks and one mega bank which had all of our offerings and more, and which was really well run..
Mellon was actually well run for a regional Custody Bank but we were purchased and had our pensions looted leaving us Pennies on the dollar in our pensions.
It is not a difficult decision to leave here. It’s a no brainer
This place is no good for one’s mental health. It’s a struggle to go to work every day. Hate it so much but have no oomph to look for a job.
Everyone in bnym hates each other. The CEO hate Employees, Employee hates CEO. Boomers hate millenials. Gen Z hates both Boomers and the Millenials. Employee hates managers, Managers hate Employees. Co-workers hate each other . EMEA hates US, US hates India. Don't know what bny will achieve with such Brutal divide and rule policies globally. Other than that Senior management handpicks someone who they want to put on a Spotlight. They can be their Star overnight. There are many Karen (Slang), Ken & Kevin strategically placed in each team and if you pi-s them off your career is finished. That's how a Lobby of Karen(Slang) gets created among VP's here in this company. You can't pi-s them off. You also get ridiculed or made fun of if you present an improvement idea that involves automation that would benefit a company.
P.S : Of late I have noticed there is a Bot that is being planted in this forum, another hatemonger Todd's nephew who goes on with his University of Phoenix rants across every thread to create more hate. There are Netizens here from EMEA, India who has nothing to do with what happens in your sh-t Phoenix university. Please go and rant somewhere else.

Cant tell my department name here. Whatever new projects they have, the work goes to their trusted few employees who have been with the bank for many years. On top of that, they count code commits and daily check-ins, leaving others wonder how they could break in so that at least they will get some meaningful work assigned. Being yelled at and humiliated by division’s MD in meetings with 70+ participants is a daily occurrence. They feel nothing of blaming one person for something done by entire team. No accountability, promote inexperienced people to be leads, there is too much politics and backstabbing.
What department did you work in? We have too much work and projects with unrealistic deadlines. Every time someone leaves, the Req never gets filled.
