Any layoff expected for this month? If so when?

2023 marked the absolute lowest layoff year in the past 40 years. Todd’s 2 1/2 term era was also really low.

Robin has been very deliberate in laying down the rules and mechanisms for RTO tracking, activity tracking and work productivity. All of this suggests that careful thought is going into this and that 2024 is likely to be a long overdue and very large layoff year.

The real question is whether the targets will largely be those who flipped the bird to Robin by not returning to the office.

I’m fully aware of all of our offices, lines of businesses, their locations and far more.

No we don’t “normally do our layoffs” each month on the second or third Monday or Tuesday.

We haven’t done layoffs for the entire year of 2023 aside from a disorgized attempt at one in January. It petered out in one day. Before that there were two full years of zero layoffs. So don’t pretend that you’re teams have several times a month layoffs. It just isn’t true and you know it.

@gqn

That’s untrue. We had a continued and relaxing respite from layoffs all year.

Rest up for January.

Who was bad at the January layoffs and how bad were they?

Assume that you’re a psychic?

The three year pause in layoffs will end in January. For those who have been here many years, you know the drill. for those hired around Feb 2020, this is going to be a frightening year.

Make sure that you have nothing personal in the office as it will be lost. Only come in with items which fit in your pocket. Make sure this week that you have your home email address is current in HR mysource. Ensure that you have your Employee ID card. Memorize your EIN. Make a list of work contacts and their phone numbers and email. Try to get lots of rest in December. Remember through the hassle of it all that you will have SUB and within a month you’ll be more relaxed than you’ve been in years.

Things happen quickly… preparation and organization will help.

Performance based, in January

I do think something is coming again soon. My manager seems quite stressed about finishing up projects and getting others trained on things they've never done before by quickly approaching phantom deadlines. That often means more jobs losses in our group (which unfortunately is quite normal.) Our year end reviews are happening soon. Drawing straws to see who'll get the "BE's" this year. Last two rounds, the "BE's" were gone within weeks.

@3tor+1pT5u1p. You have no idea what you’re talking about. Over 50% of my group laid off in September. You don’t know how many people were laid off this year so stop the nonsense about it being a lay off free year. You do not know so stop posting guesses.

You simply cannot comprehend how deep the layoffs of the past 40 years were. If it helps, have a chat with a boomer to get prepped for it.

As we all know we’re finishing up a rare layoff free year. There was one failed attempt at a layoff way back in the first week of January. It failed for reasons unknown.

Hold onto your hats… I anticipate that we’ll return to our tried and true quarterly layoffs in February, May, August and November.

2023 was a dream year for everyone fearing layoffs. It was by far the lowest layoffs in 40 years. And the prior two years were actually a walk in the park as well.

But all good things must end and 2024 is going to be horribly back to business, and our business is cutting headcount. It’s been a relaxing 3 years of working from home and then partially going in… all with no displacements.

The newcomers of the past 20 years are really going to be she’ll shocked.

I would say the February, May, August, November cycles had been the main layoff months for the past however many years. But more recently, since 2022, I've noticed layoffs on the off months. September and January come to mind. Maybe these people were one-offs, not let go because of performance, but all of a sudden don't fit in the new structure of the organization so they're pushed out.

It's all a slow waiting game. Maybe your function is really important, but you're just one re-organization away from having your role become irrelevant. It doesn't matter how important it is, but someone at the top could be so obtuse that they fail to recognize it.

For what it is worth, I don't anticipate layoffs in December, but I'm sure they'll just double down in January and February.

Just because your office didn’t have layoffs doesn’t mean there were none. Other offices were hit. Do you not realize how many offices and jobs are in this company.

Stop making things up. January was the only layoff even attempted and we all know how quickly that fell apart.

To those that keep saying no we’re not having more you are incorrect. I’m a manger and my direct manager has advised yes there are more rounds in December and January . Stop spreading lies

Sorry, layoffs are quarterly in Feb, May, August & November.

We’re safe for layoffs for now. For whatever reason we had one minor 1% attempted layoff in January that melted down to 0.05% as HR mismanaged it. It’s been clear layoff free sailing all year ever since.

That’s not going to happen again. Nobody wants to start a job hunt in December but at least start networking and exploring opportunities before you’re fighting a mob of displacees.

They are letting people go for various reasons every quarter - but this is not more than 2-3% and may not be even more than the number of people they are hiring in US and elsewhere. In our group they let go about 15 in the Sep layoffs of which about half were summer interns but they also hired people before the quarter. January might be the only layoff in which they let go 'Below Expectations' every year. How many ? that depends on your groups target. If your manager gave you 'below expectation' rating , it might be a good idea to start looking.

This place is the bottom feeder of the banks. There is not much to go around. Yeah you can blame your manager or su-k up to him - its all the same until its your/his number. everyone is going to get theirs at some point. You can also fly under the radar without complaining , sub-inflation raises , decreasing benefits, inhumane level of work and weekend work.

Managers have already provided the names for the individuals being terminated for first quarter. The first quarter terminations are related to end year performance, for those individuals who were rated below expectations or partial expectations you will be let go.

I have heard from a few people that would know they are this week. Not trying to add to the drama, it’s just what I heard. Was told it would be a small group. Hope it was untrue.
