Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

I'm nearing my burnout point

Is anybody else so overworked that they're just waiting for the day they're going to snap, say "fu-k it," and quit?

Way ahead of ya-- I quit last year (12 year employee). I was trying to wait until I reached 65 but the BS was too much to put up with. I'd rather belt-tighten for a few years rather than be aggravated everyday. I feel so much more relaxed, and healthy, than I did in the BNYM grinder.

That’s absolutely normal at any career track Banking job.

And that’s after paying a lot of dues in terms of unpaid OT while proving yourself.

Nope. Not normal at all and you’re a dope if you reguraly give them your free time……

“ I earn 6 figures here and I’ve never worked this much for a job. I’m at 37 hours and it’s only Wednesday. It’s shocking how many hours I work.”

Yup. My New Year’s resolution is to leave, after a 30+ year career here. Familiarity breeds contempt, and I have nothing but contempt for the top of the house who seem to care only about appearances, and not actual quality.

This is bad advice. It’s far better to move to a job for which you have an aptitude and that you love than to intentionally shirk work.

Yes happens to me every Nov/Dec.

Believe it or not Senior Management would just love to get a great product idea coming up the chain from a motivated engaged employee who knows their stuff and can make it happen.

No, it’s absolutely normal for any career track employee in Financial Services. Hard work always pays off.

Serious question…. Why? Why are your putting in those hours? For your boss? The good of the company ? Think you’ll get that big promotion?

This isn’t normal outside of bnym & these banks.

I feel extremely burnt out. I get up early to work, leave late, leave and then come back to work at a later time in the evening. I earn 6 figures here and I’ve never worked this much for a job. I’m at 37 hours and it’s only Wednesday. It’s shocking how many hours I work.

It amazes me. I see people working all hours of the day and every day of the week. Why… These people are going to regret it as soon as the company decides their number is up.

The sooner you realize you are not important, and the company doesn’t care about you & frankly despises you, the better off you’ll be ….

Quit letting yourself get taken advantage of

feel this way after my YE review. always the stick, never the carrot. And the way it's presented, it's "RIFs are coming; watch your back; CYA"; What an oppressive environment.

Every time that I’ve felt that way I conducted a job search. I never moved to escape, but always because I saw something cooler that I wanted to do.

I said this last month and some people here told me to go now and maybe I would save a role for someone else.

I do think my time here is limited. Probably not by my choice, but that is how it is in business. You are a champ until you are not.
