Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Working from abroad

Thinking of working from overseas for one week. I’ll come to the office every day the following week. Do I need to ask my manager for approval ? Is it allowed ? Anyone has done it ?

There are also tax implications.

To reiterate, be very concerned about data crossing international borders, it is a big deal.

My question is why would you take your laptop on vacation? You get nothing out of it. Don’t give the bank the power to think you have to do that. I know I know some managers give you a guilt complex if you aren’t available 24/7. Which is bull.

110% not worth it. You should read up on policies. Banks are heavily regulated and polices go beyond that.

Long ago a guy in mortgage spent a couple of weeks in India while pretending to be working at home. They were bothered by his being periodically unavailable, and investigated. He was fired but then rehired a year or so later.

@tfo+1ttHzFla - really? thanks for this, had no idea as I've traveled on vacation abroad with my corporate laptop since they began providing them to us.

It's easier to log on for an hour or two a day than try to catch up when I return.

But sux. I'd rather be required to unplug and leave it locked in my desk.

You’re supposed to ask GIS before you leave the country with a bank laptop. Cross border data protection rules.

Will you be on vacation? I was in vacation for 3 weeks in Europe and connected my laptop every couple of days to check in and keep things moving. (I know, I'm pathetic doing that on vacation).

Told my manager, so she was armed in case she was asked or challenged about the tracker by HR. (She wasn't)

No problems at all. Enjoy!

Not sure if allowed but people do it from India all the time. It should work.

Regulators will question the bank about any laptop activity outside of your country (technically they also track activity outside of the state where you pay income tax). Took my laptop on vacation to England and it wouldn’t connect - I assumed there was a restriction.
