Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

We need more help

Nobody cares that the company’s letting some of our best people leave without bringing in replacements. I understand it's tough to replace their experience, but just hiring anyone would help with this never-ending workload. I'd love to spend some time with my kids while they're still awake occasionally.

Spend the time with your kids every day. They will appreciate you and remember you. Work will not.

Anyone productive is exempt from overtime and is quite happy with their paycheck.

Workers with an hourly paycheck and mentality will never have a career in Banking.

That was me. I am in a no-growth location, over 60, and today is my official last day at the bank . I was on my third position with the bank where the team was so short-staffed that vendors had no idea how we were able to perform at such good levels. It's of course because my team members cared about doing the best job possible and were thanked with 1-2% raises after years of working evenings and weekends. I had some great advice from a former manager: Act like a contractor. Do what you were hired to do and leave as soon after 8-9 hours as possible. The work will be there tomorrow, I promise you. My last team was already short two people due to staff leaving last year yet we were not allowed to backfill. Now with me gone, they are still not gonna backfill. I wish my former team luck with working with an even smaller team.

It’s not worth it, especially if you are not in a growth location, to strive to do more than “Meets Expectations”. I know that’s hard for those of us with integrity and want to succeed but the sad fact is, there is nothing to strive for. No promotions or new reqs in non-growing locations. Everyone needs to start putting their work away for the day at a certain point. Maybe they will finally get the hint when more and more client complaints come in.

OP you need to learn to put your foot down. You're contracted to work a set amount of hours per week, anything over that is 'free' work and the only people that benefit from this are the EC and shareholders.
Why should you feel that you have to work the extra hours because there isn't enough staff to cover the workload.
The only people that will ever remember you going above and beyond are your family (the people that missed out).

And I….. I would love to help you. And I can. I managed some best of class projects and I’m a winner. My only defect? My only problems?
I was too expensive. I was in a non preferred location. I was over 50.
