Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

This is just a transitional job

If you came here looking for good pay, career opportunities, and reasonable hours, you’re in for a disappointment. If you have hopes or expectations, they’ll just squeeze the last drop of energy you have and then unceremoniously kick you to the curb. Take this job as a temporary affair to add to your resume, do bare minimum, and spend as much work hours as you possibly can on looking for another job. Any other attitude will set you up for failure, frustration, and regret.

Temporary affair?
You betcha. The choice is not even yours. It’s the new direction bestowed upon BNY by RV and his HR viruses. You will not see 5, 10, 20 , 30 etc. year people here anymore. Why? Because this place is a short term assignment. The new direction is not to give matches, benefits, money or career longevity here any longer. There are no pensions or true vestment here anymore. It is just a 3rd rate place to spend a couple of years if you cant get hired elsewhere. Then…. You move on or get Rif-ed.

Welcome to banking. It’s absolutely this way in all FIs.

Agreed. If you are an aspirational person with a good character and willing to work hard…. as well as intelligent, but had the unfortunate circumstance of somehow accepting a job at BNY, you quickly learn to pivot towards your next opportunity. None of the aforementioned personality traits are relevant to BNY. Maintain your employment enough to survive, but full throttle towards the next role at better company- ( I know, the bar is low relatively speaking)
