My store went to 5 Tls, 7ATLS, 3 specialist and .8 supervisors total...3 ATLS for gro/ spec/ wb, one sea / meat 2 for pre/bake and one for front end. For the store there are three specialist wine, gro/spec/wb and Pre/bake.. We have 8 supervisors, 4 on the front, 3 in Pre/bake and 1 in produce. This is stil. 1 out of 5 who can make over $20 an hour which I think will be tough for the budget cuts headed our way in three weeks. I doubt there will be layoffs but with stores opening those numbers should go down.

Mid Atlantic structure is one buyer in whole body and two in grocery. Seems to have been working this last year so I'm sure this will be the move for regions with more buyers

I've seen the structures and a store my size (650k) with a combined WB/Gro team would have 1 WB ATL, 2 GRO ATLs, 2 Non-perishable buyers, 2 perishable buyers and 2 WB buyers for next FY.

here's my bet... with teams combining, atls will take this roll back until ordering becomes fully automated. i would say 3 buyers most for now...one grocery, one wine and one pfds.. theses are the three positions that are most labor intensive for buyers, No one will loose a job, no severance, either it will be through attrition or buyers will be offered team member positions at nearly the same rate of pay.

Yes they will be eliminated, with the layoffs that came last year, masked under the notion that it was a sales $ thing, was a lie, they did this to bring in the new register system, which is already set up for the automated ordering. It wont happen to all stores all at the same time, but for stores being built and stores that got the new registers, look to the buyers jobs going in the next year and a half or sooner

I have heard that the amount of buyers allowed on each time will be cut to one for WholeBody and two for Grocery. Specialty is likely to be impacted the most with beerwinecheesecoffee being a single buyer's duty - if they get a buyer at all. Some Specialty teams will be combined with Grocery soon so I imagine they may try to divvy those ordering expectations on the already spent grocery buyers.

So...the buyers will be reduced eventually at every level to a bare minimum to keep labor dollars down.

It's an awful idea but it can be done. Awful because good folks will lose their jobs or find something less challenging within WFM.

Buyers positions will go eventually, but first we need a nationwide register system, and a nationwide purchasing system. Then we will be able to have automatic ordering based on cash register movement.

No. However it coming down the line once everything becomes a perpetual inventory. In the mean time don't be concerned about it
