There's no doubt about it, the layoffs are as personal as it gets - there is nothing objective about it at all. Once this fact is accepted your only choice is to leave which is what they want you to do so good luck and make sure you do it when it suits you and yes, it WAS a great place to work at one time, just as the country was great at one time.
Yes, you nailed it and anyone who thinks that BOA is family is so in denial! I support the original poster 100%!!! I worked my a-- off for BOA! Same thing, always exceeds, always praised, never took lunches and always worked above and beyond what was expected! Oh, I was a mywork, so I'm sure many of you who don't understand will say my mywork employees didn't work, but that is just the total opposite!!!! BOA tricked me into thinking we were family, but in the end, they hurt me and my real family! I took the bank's core ethics to heart and stood by them and was screwed in the end! Has nothing to do with being "butt hurt" haaaaa! That's why this is all still messed up! They get rid of the hard workers and keep the employees on that use words like "butt hurt" on! So sad! This used to be a great place to work!
Families dont rank their members so that the lowest members will be eliminated in the next lay-off. If they tell you you are safe thats when you have to start updating your resume.

I don't despise family at all but clearly you are incapable of reading and understanding my comment which explains why you're still there since you're probably not very skilled. I had consistently received Exceeds expectations ratings and could read the signs that BAC was in a downward spiral. I am fortunate to be highly skilled and readily employable so options were plenty, No need to stick around and work for an idiot manager who thought she could get by on politics and perceived charm. Loving life and living the dream, best of luck to you, I have a feeling you'll need it.
Families are by definition dysfunctional. Each and every one, no exceptions. Your BAC family is no different.

My last manager at BAC referred to me as family and I had to pull her aside and tell her we're not family, we're not friends and never will be. I am not there to make friends or extend my family, I am there to do a job and that's it. I left shortly after that and never looked back.
I have all the sympathy in the world for those impacted by this layoff, but anyone who still buys into the "family" message at BAC or elsewhere is kidding themselves.
The tech labor market doesn't work that way and hasn't for years.
Everyone, regardless of age, education, experience, gender or ethnicity, must continually develop themselves to ensure they're able to quickly secure a new position should they suddenly find themselves disowned by their "family."
