Really, that's very obvious. The whole WFM takeover hoopla is from Albertsons to gain an upper had as they negotiate the Sprouts deal. Wait and watch how this plays out, I am 1000% certain they will never (or have intention to) acquire us or any other chain for that matter.

Don't kid yourself.... sprouts is a mess.
The last four weeks have been yet another exercise is pump and dump. Pump up the rumors, get some excitement going, shareholders want to see some kind of saviour come in and save the day with a big buyout in excess of current share price....and then, as always, they look at the operations, look at the books, look at the questionable "leadership"....and walk away (or run away) as fast as they can. The OP is spot on. Albertsons and any other smart buyer wants absolutely nothing to do with this dumpster fire.
The fiscal year ends at the end of September?! Not sure if that's what the other TM suggests.
What's so special about September
Looks like the stock is once again in neutral. Blah Blah Blah buyout, merger, whatever it takes to get the stock to move. Let's see, layoff no movement, fire a CEO no movement, talk about a buyout and boing there it goes. September changes everything!
Yes I have to agree....the activist activity is intended to raise our stock value so everyone along for the ride can cash out when the stock gets higher, before another drop. Gimmicks at the poker table. I feel WFM will have to go it alone and fix itself...maybe even get out of wall street.
I am the OP - the source is my gut feeling...
On Albertsons going after Sprouts: there is an extensive coverage by the mainstream media and blogs - for starters you can check out this at USA Today:
