I would have had 14 years with BNY this year had the company not sold Shareowner Services to Computershare back in 2012. No heads up given to the employees we found out on the news on the day of the sale. Employees were forbidden from bidding out and could not apply back in until Computershare let us go. 18 months later stuck with no job and could not come back to BNY Mellon with their seniority. Took a big chance going back after getting recruited in. Things went OK for a few years then moved to another group in Aug 2018 only to get a below expectations review after receiving extremely poor training and dealing with poor technology and poor setup of processes and how things were run. I've never had a below rating in ANY job inside and outside of BNYM. My manager didn't even explain why only was told I didn't ask enough questions. Talked to management to try to appeal it and it was a waste of time yet my peers hired the same time as me got meets expectations. I got laid off yesterday Jan 14th and it just makes me wonder if the bad rating was just a setup to get rid of me. What blows my mind is that you can work hard have passion care about your job be the best employee the ideal employee and it doesn't matter. Talent and hard work doesn't matter anymore in the world it seems.

A colleague of mine at BNYMellon was rated as MEETS EXPECTATIONS on her performance review. Days later, her manager dragged her into a 1-on-1 meeting and told her that her review was being changed to BELOW EXPECTATIONS. Couldn't give her a viable reason. I know of former colleagues that I still keep in touch with there. They work 10 hour days commonly. They do the work of 2-3 people. They are demoralized and looking for new jobs as I write this today (Aug 3, 2019). If you are young, get offered a job there, take it, learn what you can, but don't expect it to last. Just learn what you can and use it as a stepping stone. For the older workers there, those who have put in, sacrificed, put their lives on hold because you believed in this company... I feel for you folks and hope that you make it through, find a new opportunity and move on as I have done.
Same strategy is being followed in India too. Anxious sleepless nights ahead as layoffs in India offices in the coming week.
Yes it is a setup I work there. Once you get below you are fired within 6 months. Place s---s!!!
Thanks. I definitely deserve better they are not worthy of what I have to give and they definitely have an integrity issue. I think the merger of BNY and Mellon has done more harm than good. Mellon was a better environment before the merger happened in 2007. I a eligible to apply back in the bank but I definitely will not be doing that.
In my experience everything bad that happens there is turned back on to the employees as if it's their fault. Lots of micro management, favoritism and employees being treated as machines.
My husband works there. The company appears to have an integrity problem. From what I have read in the media, they have been fined numerous times for shady business dealings. My sympathies to those who have and are being unfairly treated. You deserve better.
Yes. Yes it was.Many people are saying the same thing. So if you get a below expectations, start polishing your resume.
That is truly cowardly behavior from management. Adding insult to the injury of laying you off, is making you think it’s your fault somehow.
