Long rumored and finally here. Campus to be sold to data center developers

Large number of layoffs and “early retirements” at the central RandD center in Research Triangle Park, NC 2 weeks ago. Whole R&D team at the site is on notice and expecting the axe to fall before the holidays

Reported in this mornings News & Observer -- campus to be completely vacated by March 2026. The land has been sold to data center developers.

Around the corner from Red Hat, too.
RTP - Anyone ever up and quit?
How did you do it? What did you do with your laptop? is there anything you wish you had done differently? From my understanding Cisco and NC are "at will", hence no legal requirement for notice.
Spare me the "burning bridges" comments. Cisco is not a bridge I want to keep. I just watched my leadership sc--w over hardworking teammates over and over again. I am DONE.
Lenovo took down internal job postings for H1Bs
After the DOJ encouraged people to report employers who were targeting foreign employees Lenovo took down many job postings for visa holders only. I remember seeing many posts where you couldn’t click apply because they were reserved for foreign workers. Also at the building 8 entrance in RTP they would print and tape jobs that were for foreign workers only on the door.
Folks, having been through the 2011 RIF, I would strongly suggest looking at the possibility of leaving the nest. This wasn't an easy realization for me - I enjoyed Cisco and tried interviewing for open positions before my official departure date, coming up second fiddle at least twice.
I leveraged Lee Hecht Harrison's outplacements services extensively, refining my resume, learning the #RTP, #NC networking scene and LinkedIn to (eventually) land at a SaaS software shop. Once there I refined some skills and used it as an entry point into "cloud". Obviously, it was a good markets space to land in 7+ years ago.
I am happy to help others in this new world. Please connect with me at: linkedin/in/chrismarin and reference this post.
Good luck!
