Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

In-office time tracking

Anyone know anything about in office time tracking? Heard from a higher-up that they will soon be tracking this.
Will it be measured by vpn usage and/or exit swiping? Is there a minimum daily requirement for in office hours to count towards 3 day requirement or will it be more like a weekly total?
I don’t have too much of a problem going into office but I don’t want to end up on a list for leaving couple hours early every now and then

The seat reservation system has been in place for some offices for many years now, even before RTO became an official policy. So for those locations, they can realistically enforce you to reserve seats for at least 3 days and accurately track if you have logged into the computers you reserved. The only saving grace for this system not being in place is the fact not every office has implemented this system.

@3dfq+1qO30mOB - when I get full make-up and stylist on the Bank's nickel like Katy Knox, then I'll go on camera. Until then, no camera.

my dog ate it.

(not sure what the camera would do any way -- just pick any blank plain white wall.)

Some offices are starting to remodel to an open floor plan and associates need to reserve office space up to two weeks in advance, since the new floor plan does not have room for everyone. 5 day work week and 3 day rto means a full house 1 day a week that cannot fit all. A fiendishly cleaver way to create impossible compliance and termination for cause. Trust the team

From what I heard today the people in Hopewell are off the hook for a while until the finish the floor to floor office refurbished. I heard it's hard to keep track of a rolling Talley with people coming in and out in 6 week intervals. We'll see

I heard managers are now encouraged to hold impromptu meetings and require cameras on for all participants. Since all office set ups have webcams, you will have no excuse not to have your cameras on.

@1fjv+1qO30mOB - just 'cause someone is logged into VPN, doesn't mean they are working.

True story: pre-pandemic, a colleague was unaware of the tracking and kept his laptop logged on at home ALL THE TIME - 24/7 - weekends! Because it was a "pain" to log off and back on again.

HR scolded his manager about the "excessive" VPN usage.

Manager (who was in a different citiy with a team spread all over the US) told him "hey, just keep your VPN hours under 40/week."

The poor guy had NO idea! :-D

A mystery -- does someone know why? Back when I was on MyWork I had a Cisco router that implemented VPN and put me on the bank network as if I were in the office. I used this pretty much all day, every day. And then there was software VPN, which was considered bad and had to be limited. I never knew what the important difference between the two kinds of VPN was.

All these people talking about VPN tracking like HVD doesn't exist lol.

I never understood VPN tracking. If you were on VPN for 14-15 hours a day, shouldn’t that mean you’re online working? Why is that a bad thing?

Before the RTO, of course.

@1jnn+1qO30mOB - if they offered a severance package, I'd take it in a NY Minute and be out the door before the ink dried!

That's their whole point: Cheaper to make work miserable so we quit for free.

It's a stand off.

Just quiet quit and keep the benefits to run out the clock. I've done 35 years here, no pension anymore, no raises, so sc--w them.

VPN tracking has been in place since VPN was invented. Since none of the people or clients I work with are anywhere near my location, I've successfully worked from home for years (pre Covdid, not My Work) keeping my hours below the threshholds to avoid tripping the report.

(A lot of my job is talking to people on the phone, so I don't need to be on VPN much.)

Just keep VPN use to <40 hrs/week and <72hrs/ month. Those are the tripwires.

My name have never shown up on "the list". (and I am a Top Performer, no slacker)

Bank started tracking VPN pre-pandemic at the time MyWork was being reduced across the firm - wouldn’t be surprised to see this tracking return. Also, wouldn’t surprise me to see a return of the pre-pandemic core location strategy. If you don’t live within a certain distance of a “core” site for your LOB, prepare to move closer or take a severance package.

Tired of seeing certain associates come in just for a bit so they can swipe their badge and then go home to work, so glad they are thinking of tracking VPN usage as well.

This place is a toxic dump now. Was a great place just a few years ago, but now it’s the worst place to work in the banking sector. HR was trying to recruit two of my friends with one heck of a rolodex, and they turned them down once I told them what it has become. Asked why I am still here, and told them just a few more weeks to go before jumping to a competitor with clients in support to follow me and leave too. They’re fed up as well with the constant changes!

These are the types of things management focuses on - administrative nonsense - to exert their authority because most lack the product knowledge and expertise they are supposed to have of the areas they manage. So the only way they can get to play the boss with their employees, is with cr-p like monitoring in-office attendance and other administrative BS that's unrelated to the actual work at hand.

seriously, why do they care? is there work that it not getting done?

if the work is not done or someone is loafing around, people know! That is a performance issue and grounds for discplinary action.

Maybe we could begin each morning with the manager leading Roll Call like elementary school teachers.

Had not heard this. Can't be time you swipe in/swipe out, becuase the swiping out is a Fire Hazard in many jurisdictions.

VPN they've always monitored.

Not sure how they would track this. Don't give them any ideas!!!

Aren’t work days 8 hours? Too many people are working extra hours thru the week so they can shorten their Friday.
What is going on?

I believe the current requirement is a minimum 6 hours in the office, 3 days a week for most.

1% increase + time tracking will get people to quit, which is what they want. I wouldn't be surprised, but I'll be on of the first out the door if this happens.
