Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

IP address tracking

I heard the rumor that BNY Mellon is currently tracking IP address and how many hours for each employee spend time in the office based on IP address and badge swipes.

Hint: put a paperweight on your keyboard after you walk away as to log many extra keystrokes

Yeah, Bo-m! Nobody would ever notice that LOL :-)

And they walk among us…

I would hold that it is a little too late for that…. Your work ethic is already well measured.

Kind of feel sorry for the slackers who thought that wiggling a mouse, having people swipe them in and most hilarious… “use an iPhone, Bo-m” LOL.

All of your fates are sealed with no Sub, BO-M!

Partially true. They are tracking how long you’re “active” on your computer. I have not (yet) heard of them tracking location based on IP address. They track how long you’re in teams calls, active in different applications, time between mouse movement/clicks, time spent browsing, etc.

To my knowledge the data is being shared with only L5 and above. Maybe L4 and above.

Right, @dcij. Because jr employees are known for their dedication and lack of entitlement attitudes.

And yet people here still wonder why they’re getting displaced without SUB. The answer can be found in virtually every thread on here. The good news is that Robin fully understands this and is carefully weeding out toxic employees.

I also like the idea of new Junior level hires to replace those toxic employees.

This was really good advice to not allow BK to build a case against you. “Anyone who does so will be used as an example when hybrid inevitably gets phased to 4 days in office”.

Unfortunately it is too late and this is why terminations are underway… some with Sub and some without Sub. I think that we all can agree that this layoff round is thoughtfully targeted.

Not at the company but have heard many at BNY would swipe their badge and head home - This is just a note that companies have the ability to track everything you do down to the stroke of a key, and if they so desire they can easily tell where you log in. There is an action log of everything you do on your PC, and it doesn't matter if you've stayed active on MS teams - They'll be able to tell how productive you are based on time spent in files, emails sent, and so forth. I don't know whether they want to use the resources to do that, but I know they can because I've seen it hapen.

Do not let them build a case against you. Anyone who does so will be used as an example when hybrid inevitably gets phased to 4 days in office.

So are they actually tracking by IP address and badge swipes?

I remember the MS Teams reports that showed how much I was "collaborating". Turns out the slow employees who needed help with everything were the most productive according to the MS reports.

It’s a tool that tracks your movement . They can tell how long you’re actually doing keystrokes , in meetings etc

I noticed going back to the office today that new badge readers were installed on my floor in Pittsburgh. Of course I researched and found out that these are capable of reading mobile devices. At one town hall I remember them saying that they would eventually put our ID's on our phones "to make life easier for us all" or some such corporate BS.

Of what use is your iPhone? It won’t be captured at the turnstiles and door locks by the badge readers… only your ID card can do that for you. And even if you tether to it from home they won’t see a BNYM office logon but an unknown remote device that indicates working remotely. Am I missing something?

To lump every department and every job grade into slackers at home with lower productiviy is just plain wrong. My group's productivity did NOT drop during covid and working from home had no negative bearing on our revenue contribution. However, regurgitating your negative views of the people who worked from home, produced, and continue to want to work from home for a better work/life balance only feeds the banks leadership into treating all of us like children. If people are slacking off it is their immediate Management's responsibility to clean up or clean house, not the C-suite. The problem with this bank is the C-suite doesn't let department management manage. In other words, when you don't know what your doing, deflect and manage something easy. In this case, RTO 3 days a week regardless of what you do, who you meet with, or how productive you have been. If that is so-called management, we should all be a Chief something -or-other and making a few million.

Yes, matching employee id login to IT system is very easy. Yes, It SHOULD NOT COST much, it is simple. But when we implemented “Agile” we staffed Agile projects with old school Waterfall Project Managers and now cannot deliver anything.

To your two beautifully phrased questions…

  1. Yes, it is workshy Americans hiding at home.
  2. The company cannot know where the wasters are because this simple project must be run as an Agile project, staffed with Waterfall PMs so it cannot be delivered for several years.

This is why we must pay a vendor. We could have Roman try it but he hasn’t delivered his first deliverable after 6 years and counting.

The sad thing is when a worker like you and I work are expected to work non comped 10 or so hours pretty much every weekend. This is exactly why I resigned.

It’s NOT about “dinosaurs getting upset that people enjoy working from home.”

It’s coworkers and management measurements that indicated that the vast majority of employees slacked off during the two year COVID era. Like it or not they treated us as adults and overall we failed to live up to normal productivity.

People really should have been a little more upfront with coworkers who just mail in the minimum. You simply cannot blame Robin for what he inherited from Todd, and you can’t blame Todd for playing the cards that were dealt to him in he pandemic.

I really don’t understand you dinosaurs that get so upset that people enjoy wfh. Some of you really seem to think that if employees are home that they are on vacation, we are still online and working! The lazy and slacking employees are going to perform bad no matter what location they are in. The hybrid wfh model is here to stay, stop complaining or go to a company that makes you come in 5 days a week.

Why work 12 hour shifts for BNYM pay? Are you working in a secret BNY Investment Banking division?

Time for you to realise you’ve eaten up the propaganda so hard you’d give unpaid hours of work to a Corp. that will fire you without a second thought. There’s no reason to be conceited about your own exploitation

I certainly hope that they’re talking to vendors to get much better tracking of our in office time. Managing, delegating tasks and measuring results is the friggin’ definition of being commercial. These militant slackers are destroying the Bank.

It’s like a contest here to see who can do less… and we wonder why they don’t treat us like adults.

“Just use your iPhone. Bo-m. Solved”.

What a fool. The issue isn’t making a personal text, phone call or other matter. That’s utterly normal and always has been.

The issue is you being inactive on your IP address for work purposes whether at home OR in our facilities. Management has understood this issue very well ever since productivity crashed in the WFH COVID years.

Yes. we should be focused on poor performers - such as the ceo, & many of his directs. The stock price stinks as bad as the bathrooms
But hey, at least we can put our pronouns on teams.

It’s very commercial to focus on the nonperforming employees. It’s the difference between a well run company and a failing company.
