Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Oriskany is Closing

The writing is on the wall. Oriskany is closing. How obvious can it be before employees get answers? I understand there are other "growth" sites for the company such as lake Mary or Pitt. However, Oriskany was a "growth" center once upon a time. While they were "growing" Oriskany, employees in LM or PITT/NYc Were still able to be promoted, receive a raise or, apply to jobs in other locations. There are zero job postings for Oriskany. I have heard of one person getting a promotion in the last 6 months that still works in Oriskany. I myself have applied to several jobs in LM and PITT. I have gotten emails from HR instantly stating that I was not picked for the positions. I even started applying to jobs that I was well qualified for, or jobs below my letter grade, just to see if I would get the same email and I did.
Who else heard rumors? If so what are they?
At what point will they make it official? I hope that everyone who is not able to relocate, gets out now before there are hundreds of layoffs.

Wilmington is one our most overpaid locations. I’m baffled by it, I don’t see any reason for it.

Wilmington is the most overly paid location. It rivals Manhattan and the cost of living is a fraction of NYC.

Don’t forget that Tim always promoted it’s a center of excellence.

@2hwd

Not so, Charlie did give us a four year warning that our Oriskany office would close in 4 years. And it has turned out to be dead on accurate.

@OP

Uh yeah. We’ve known this for four years and counting.

@3bju - Right, it must be true if you keep spewing it on every. single. post.

These twits change direction every other month WTF makes you think they would still be following Charlie's guidance? They've moved on and you should too.

@2hwd

Not so. Charlie gave us in Oriskany a four year notice that Oriskany would close. Don’t tell me that you don’t remember or act on it.

To the person or persons that constantly talk about Charlie; I would bet tractor boy’s farm that Charlie didn’t know where Oriskany was or that it even existed. Probably the same for Pittsburgh.

@2xqy - Long time/current Oriskany employee here. Could not agree more. The pay was always cr-p but the site culture made up for it. Although I can't say things are still the same. There's no management left, we all report to NYC, Pitts, LM, etc.

There's been no formal announcement yet (and certainly nothing from the Charlie days) but we all know someone who has been "told" off the record that the site is closing. No one seems to be have given a time frame, of course.

I guess there's always a chance of a change of course after the next round of musical chairs in our senior "leadership", which already seems overdue.

To add to my comment about Charlie not wanting to exit Oriskany:

has long been viewed by senior management as a site that delivers high-quality work. The best client service in the company. (Even during the years when the company was not known for good customer service (late 2000s), the Oriskany Funds Transfer unit received raves from clients around the globe.)

Can’t speak to the last few years but it’s always been viewed as a successful site because they instilled the right culture. That’s a big thing. I stepped foot in many BNYM sites but the vibe at Oriskany was the best.

I pray they haven’t lost sight of what the employees at the site deliver.

I keep hoping that the person posting here that Oriskany is closing is just an alarmist.

Not sure the current state of play but can say for certain that Charlie had zero intention of closing or scaling back Oriskany.

@2grs, that's different than claiming that it was announced...or even decided. Nobody denies that it's dying, but that's a lot different than saying it's closing.
And how many "high level managers are in Lake Mary or Pune? Or Pittsburgh for that matter.

There are no postings for Oriskany, the building is leased ( not owned- regardless of what the site manager keeps saying), no high- level managers there, and they have moved most of the jobs to Lake Mary or Pune. This is not JUST A RUMOR. It's called seeing the writing on the wall.

@2adl, you are a liar. Charlie actually visited Oriskany and was impressed by the productivity and technology.

@1ras

Yes, Charlie was as evil as they get. But he was kind enough to give us a four year heads up on closing Oriskany, and four years later it came to be. Many of our old coworkers enjoyed a relaxing three to four year period of a stress free job search.

By any measurement Charlie was a straight sho-ter on our closure of Oriskany so he definitely did us right.

Yes, Charlie was one of the worst CEOs ever, but he was a straight sho-ter with the Oriskany employees and he warned us that it would be closed within 4 years. It really allowed us all to make our personal moves.

The only “rumor” about this site closing comes from this poster who keeps commenting same thing on other threads too. Then comments multiple times to make it look like others are agreeing. Seriously get a life!!!!

Charlie "tried to do right by us"? that is a comical statement. Someone on this thread is in love with Charlie. Charlie did little for employees. He cut jobs and received a huge salary for himself. he hired his friends and gave them large salaries. He visited EVERY BNYM site with the intention of closing offices. He never gave any warning about an Oriskany closing.

Syracuse was a ‘growth site’ until it wasn’t. Now Oriskany is a ‘growth site’ until it isn’t.

Charlie gave us our four year warning that Oriskany would close and after four years it is indeed closing.i

He meant it as a warning so we could all job search. But I seriously doubt that he could ever have suspected the degree of twists and turnings with Oriskany. Like him or not, he tried do to right by us.

@fuy, who defended the company? And Syracuse employees were NOT offered relocation. They were TOLD to relocate or else.
@afx, it was posted SEVENTEEN DAYS ago.

Whoever it is defending the company, clearly looks down upon Oriskany. Simply read "because of the way WE treat THEM" below...disgusting
If you're curious, just ask folks from Syracuse how it went before their site was shut down... Layoffs, no job postings, no promotions, managing through attrition, site closure. Retain 15% of workforce. Offer relocation to nearest site.
Rinse & Repeat.
If you've been there awhile, get your severance package. Or if your nearing retirement, stay, let them make a mistake by gifting you weeks of pay before you draw from your retirement. If you haven't been there more than 4 years, I'd suggest you pack up and go before the wave of unemployed start searching for a job.

Indeed postings are not up to date. Rather, look at the internal website. The last post was posted as Oriskany, however outlined within the job description, it clearly states THIS POSITION IS FOR PITTSBURGH NOT FOR ORISKANY...

Senior Specialist, Business Planning & Analysis- job post
BNY Mellon
Oriskany, NY 13424•Hybrid remote
$79,000 - $135,000 a year

All the rumors are based on speculation because of the way we treat Oriskany. It has nothing to do with any leaked information.

Plenty of suspicions about the Wilmington DE site also. Nobody gets promotions here. The executive team is just making things so unpleasant in the hopes that people will just quit so they don't have to pay termination benefits. But now with that ridiculous "notice" we are expected to give, it doesn't make it easy to accept an offer elsewhere.
