The next technology success in NYC will be their first, and we’ve been waiting since they bought out Mellon and drove back us into the Stone Age.
Wow… are we ever missing our boomers or what?!??!
@2crd
I am the original person you replied to. I highly encourage you to read @faf post.
You sound like someone whom has not been part of the technical aspects of projects. Most of the time things are out of your control here even though you might be the best dev on the planet.
As an update I do agree that you are in charge of your skills, but it would be good to have your employer help support in improving you over time as I did with all my associates. I left the organization and due to my skills I got a new job at a tech company with a 150% pay increase due to the skills I acquired over time. I do the same things as I did at BNYM, but at the tech company I have well documented information, knowledgeable SMEs that have been there for decades, and management support with funding for initiatives. With the new resources I was given, so much more was able to get done and smoothly.
BNYM were asking devs to automate processes with no SME sometimes, pulling people off of platforms and sticking them on teams with no knowledge and placing them on AI teams, documentation either did not existed or the same documentation was duplicated with slight modifications hundreds of time in sharepoint, and then you are expected to perform automating a process that is basically unknown. This is the pattern of management wants something, but does not know how to get it because there is no execution plan.
@faf
Agreed.
Probe with questions to get the finer details you need to get a clear precise detailed picture from start to finish. This prevents walking into a mess.
Most teams can't follow what should be a simple manual process because everything is so convoluted. This company has no hopes of automating anything meaningful.
LOL, no not hardly…
Yes, but your skill set is your responsibility, and likewise your career. No employer pays you to skill up. It is your responsibility to improve your skill set.
AI? Give me a break.
Not even simple projects are possible now without our boomers.
It’s interesting that the firm posted that article that is sitting behind a paywall.

Certainly there is plenty to read about AI as a prospect here. Jargon, propositions and fanciful visions statements do not translate into what truly is. Look at the second commentor here. That is a valuable clue for you. You should be asking interview questions about how the project will be managed and what kind of defined requirements will be done and verified by business experts who look to automate. Do not just let the words agile, pods and flex go as an answer. You want to know how assured the role is to delivering solutions that are defined, agreed and verified. Ask about your prospective team and what hours and time they put in. Ask about the manager and their experience level, how hands on they are and how you fit in. Ask if AI has any real established framework or platform that delivers results today within the production environment.
@ 1u20DTj8 This role is at nyc location.
There is so much I am reading about AI innovation at BNY. I have cleared initial round.I am an experienced developer.
I was previously part of one of the AI teams.
I hope you know Microsoft Azure, Python, and other language experience. They will give no advice to help you, no one knows their processes to automate, and just demand you to perform. If you don’t perform they will keep on you where you can’t even sleep.
Two things. First look at that word disposable in the article. That will be you. Second, what is your location? If you aren’t in Florida or at certain locations in PA, you will be wasting your time.
