Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Wilmington, DE to close by the end of the year?

Anyone have any details, or is this just another "end of the world" rumour?
I know there are no new hires in the site, and ofice space has been consolidated.

@3bne

So… this makes it a fifth time that Oriskany was shut down and shuttered.

Hilariously nobody seems to know what goes on at Oriskany other that they’re shuttered closed every other year or so.

That’s long overdue. The pay there was out of this world and the talent minimal.

Wellesley office was supposed to be closed by 12/31/24 but has been tentatively pushed to June 2025 (but the hire freeze has not been lifted)

@3pkf I didn’t say 600 people were laid off. I was responding to @2qho‘s question, how many people remain wfh. Referring to the last published # minus the ee’s on disability, security, maintenance, cafeteria, all of which would have been included in that total number and wouldn’t be working from home now. Plus subsequent terminations and resignations. Work on your comprehension before you type ya dope.

@2gdw It didn’t claim 600 employees. It only states 30 affected employees out of a total of 600 were laid off in that round. So that means 570 employees remain as of 3.25.24. https://dol.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2024/03/warn-mohawk-valley-the-bank-of-new-york-mellon-corporation-dba-bny-mellon-3.11.24-2023-0282.pdf

It is not a question of if. It is a question of when for Wilmington. As anyone can see from the firm’s own web information:

****With the strength of over 14,000+ employees, BNY India serves clients across lines of business globally.

We have centers of excellence with world-class facilities in Pune and Chennai.*

Our Global Operations & Technology Centers include:
BNY International Operations Private Limited
BNY Technology Private Limited
Pershing India Operational Services Private Limited*

And RV’s new religion is in going with these low cost ‘growth centers’. Especially for operations which the TOH views as wash, rinse, repeat.

Also sounds a lot like Woodland Park NJ that closed earlier this year. Folks had to relocate to either NYC or Jersey City office.

@2qho The last WARN notice claimed 600 employees in Oriskany however I believe this was grossly exaggerated. Perhaps inclusive of ee’s on disability, obviously facility and security staff, etc. I personally know of countless staff, across all LOB’s, that have been cut since as well as those that voluntarily left for positions elsewhere. Best guess is 300+ remain. Also keep in mind, prior to closing, Oriskany was the final consolidation location of (4) offices in CNY which, at one point, collectively employed nearly 2,000 employees. The bank tactfully eliminated the entire CNY operation.
Oh wait, there are no layoffs, as someone repeatedly claims on here.

I don’t have exact numbers, but we all know multiple people who have lost their jobs since the closure. We really can’t apply for other internal positions because they are all hybrid. If your team has other locations in India, Pittsburgh, LM, or even NYC RUN because you’re very likely to be let go within months after office closure.

How people worked at Oriskany? And how many are now still employed working from home?

Oriskany was last year. Makes sense they’d do this yearly

BNY just continues to sell buildings in more ideal areas than their oh so great growth locations. The minute they do and force you all to work permanently from home, they’ll start getting rid of staff out of that location . Why? Because they don't want employees wfh. Make sense ?

I'm thinking in the next couple of years it will close. They haven't bothered to change any of the names or logos on the building which says the site isn't worth their time anymore.

@ufn BNY owns the buildings. They had them all up for sale last year but took it down around 12.31.23. Original plan was to sell them all and lease back 1 building (who knows for how long). They claim they didn’t sell, it was only taken off the market. I haven’t heard anything about the site closing by YE. Wouldn't shock me though. I would assume the plan is to close it at some point though since it’s not labeled for growth.

Is the lease up? They have usually been closing offices when the then current lease expires.
