Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

What scares me

So many people are willing to walk away due to RTO that those of us who stay will be screwed when it's all said and done. Imagine how many jobs we'll have to do before they're able to backfill those positions in the current job market. Do you think we'll be paid for the extra work? Of course not. I'm not looking forward to the future one bit.

I am refusing to RTO because it is stupid to commute back and forth everyday when I can easily continue doing my job from home. They can shove it! There are other companies who decided they aren't renewing their lease and are doing fine working online. Todd did not give us options. If he did, we would be staying!

You're out of your mind if you think an increased premium is going to persuade people to get the vaccine. Not sure why you pro-vaxers can't get it through your thick heads, but the people that do not feel comfortable getting an experimental medical procedure are not going to break.

Keep wishing for negative outcomes for people that do not think like you. Karma will eventually catch up with you.

Your calculation is based upon a faulty assumption. Highly unlikely that 40% of our workforce is unvaccinated.

Regardless, my statement holds true. A monthly premium increase would incentivize many of the unvaccinated to get vaccinated.

@4cnn, you're bad at math.
If you assume 40% of employees aren't vaccinated that would be around 19,200 people.
Times $200 per months is $3,840,000 per month in extra premiums.
Divide that by a $50k hospital stay and it's enough to pay for 76.8 hospitalizations PER MONTH.
There are no where CLOSE to that many at BK. If fact, name one employee who has been hospitalized from covid.

@4uub+1ctTqXor it's actually a monthly insurance premium increase of $200. If you can afford that for principal then go ahead and keep standing on that soapbox.

@3dob+, vaccinated people are being hospitalized too, abit not as often. But how many BK employees have been hospitalized? One??? Two??? Well, feel free to charge me a one-time fee of $2. As long as vaccinated people pay for their own shot.

Maybe our company will follow Delta airlines to require unvaccinated employees to pay higher monthly insurance premiums. I think that's fair given the average hospitalization cost for a Covid patient is 50k and all the hospitalizations they're seeing in recent weeks was from unvaccinated people. They also changed policy to only allow vaccinated people time off for recuperation from Covid if they experience a breakthrough case whereas unvaccinated employees must use sick days or vacation days. I think these are great incentives!

Might just be fewer layoffs as a result!

Losing coworkers for any reason has been a major concern of mine for years, but yes the RTO and vaccine mandates will make it worse.

If the company had effective leadership, they would question why employees of the White House, CDC, FDA, WHO, Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson, are not required to be vaccinated for COVID-19.

But back to the point in hand, work will indeed suck more as you watch your coworkers walk or get pushed out.

It’s not just the RTO that’s an issue. It’s also the vaccine mandate. They are going to lose A LOT of employees to that. Makes ‘working’ here more of a side gig at this point knowing that you will eventually be let go for not complying with the mandate. And there are also talks that once they let go of the employees that didn’t take the shot they are not entitled to unemployment because they technically broke the rules of the firm - similar to failing a dr-g test. The future here isn’t looking good.

Best time to slack off coming up, they will be short staffed and desperate. Good times, maybe a raise too. Something wrong? Blame it on the guy who left. win/win

I hope that your scenario comes to pass (lots of people splitting due to mandatory RTO) AND that the resulting workload is massive. I plan on working even LESS than normal and dare them to let me go... Either they put up with my slacking off, or I get let go like I've wanted for a couple of years now. Either way I look at it as a win/win situation.
