Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

RTO selectively enforced

Many IT people deemed 'inconvenient to replace' are not coming into the office at all, even if they live nearby, and there are no consequences.

Others, deemed more 'replaceable' are being coerced and threatened with HR consequences.

So much for consistency in the application of their stated policy.

You see only 5 people but you see 50 occupied cubicles?

Math is fundamental.

It's not just that IT people are hard to replace, most of those jobs are typically a perfect fit for working remotely. That's why their jobs are moved to other countries so often.

To the first poster, correct. And some people will survive even if they do not comply.

Selective, as it should be. Let Managers manage.

Pre covid, our floor was allocated to maximum capacity at 240G. Even now at "come in 60% of the time" it is still 70% empty Tuesday to Thursday..... Forget about Monday and Friday..... It is selective.

I would think everyone is under about the same pressure… but some feel confident enough about themselves to live by their own rules, and are prepared to move on if the company actually acts on its promises of “HR consequences”.
